My pc's dislike to the upgraded Zone means I can't view threads on here any more though I suspect after Saturday's result that may be a blessing in disguise. As many football fans seem to like nothing better than a good moan (after all it creates the impression we know what we're talking about;)), maybe some people are actually at their happiest right now. (i could even name some of them:))
I realised the other day that it's 40 years since I started taking a close interest in the fortunes of Southend United and, having nothing better to do, I looked up the the league table for that first season - 1970/71
I was surprised to find that of the 92 clubs in the league that season, only 12 of them are more than one division higher or lower this season than they were then. Obviously a lot of them like us will have been up and down the leagues in the intervening period but it does suggest that most clubs have a level that in the long run they return to.
For those younger Shrimpers wondering what things were like before that nasty old Mr Martin came along and ruined everything... Southend finished 18th in Division Four... four places higher than where we are now - Rowley Out!
Looking forward to Wolves and Bradford this week.

I hadn't thought of it till I read your post but it's 40 years since I started following the blues - first game non league Dagenham (wonder what happened to them!)in front of over 10,000. Makes me wonder how much money I've spent on them over the years - vaguely remember paying 25p to go in north bank?
