Having now seen the match highlights (were there so few) I'm amazed to see how the brain selects to store only a part of what the eye sees. I have to say that the action for their goal doesn't truly reflect how I remember it. The only explanation could be that, prior to the goal I observed Belford in a static position and then my eye must have concentrated on the ball looping into the net. The fact that Belford made a desperate and futile lunge for the ball, didn't register at all. I could put this down to old age and lack of concentration but, there again, perhaps that it is why there are so many different interpretations of actions and performances on here. Everyone comments on what they believe they have seen, even if what they believe they have seen was not what they actually saw...........if you see what I mean.

They have their uses - but I'd like to see once in each match a plan B where the 'long' throw is actually thrown short.

His long throws aren't quite long enough. Yes, he can chuck it further than anyone else - but a few yards too short to drop one on the keeper a la Rory Delap. As such they might look good, but are actually pretty ineffective.

Being truly honest even if we had the full quota of players I think Oxford still would have at least shaded the result. At least on the night players like Caskey, Craddock, Batt and one other ( can't remember his name) were absolutely terrific. I don't think they played as well as that just because of the numerical advantage they had.
