PG Site Services on Twitter again

Boring shirt sponsor, Boring logo, Boring Twitter feed… Even the thread about the sponsor on SZ is BORING!!!

Why have we never been able to get a decent local shirt sponsor? Especially when we have so many long standing large and established local employers, such as Olympus Keymed, BAE Systems, Ford Motor Company, CNH, Leonardo Electronics, Raytheon and Teledyne e2v to name but a few… or even Rossi Ice cream, which would be very cool!

Surely we could do better than a (not even local) plant hire firm. If we are to get new owners I’d be aiming high, and get a decent sponsor. Not one that makes us look like a Sunday league team.
I like what you did there.

How were they treated then? In less than two paragraphs you've gone from saying how they were probably treated to knowing how they were treated.

Look, in a previous career, I did a bit of corporate sponsorship for football clubs, Southend and Leyton Orient to be exact (my business had an office in both locations), and this is how it works.

You decide the level of sponsorship you want, you pay the money, and... well, that's it really. You just pay the money. You get no say in what they do with it. I honestly have no idea who PG think they are and why they are so distraught.

And I'm really not sure that Ron still being involved would be a barrier to a new sponsor becoming involved. In fact, we have had far more publicity over the last 2 months than we have had since we dropped out of the EFL and that won't be a bad thing for a sponsor. Whatever happens with Ron, it won't be the sponsors fault.
I appreciate what you are saying there and your experience of corporate sponsorship is insightful, and no doubt that's how it normally works, but was this a normal situation?

However the truth is I dont know if it did work how you advise on this occasion, unless someone comes out with complete detail

There also seems to be some confusion as to whether the deal was for 3 years or five. It certainly the face of it appears to be substantial arrangement. With us in a difficult position maybe Ron did make some offers in return, PG clearly indicate something has broken down somewhere

However it does seem to be not just a straightforward sponsorship arrangement as from what others in the know have indicated, there seems to be additional, significant , finance involved, on a loan basis, if Ive understood this correctly

I assume PG , again if providing a significant loan in addition to the sponsorship, might expect repayment ?

Given Rons reputation it is a possibility that some form of legal agreement was drawn up, perhaps for both events, sponsorship or loans?

I await to see if any legal ramifications do come to the fore for this?

This is exactly my feeling. What on earth are they on about, they are a sponsor and they pay US money. Can’t be about being a normal sponsor then.

So can only be related to either the money they have lent the club and assume no sign of it coming back their way or some other behind the scenes agreement around Fossets Ron is likely reneged on.

Bill Rubin might have been a nice old guy

I met him when I was a very, very, young man and recognised him straightaway, We were both on our way to see the blues at Brentford. He was somewhat lost on the underground and asked for my help.
So I aided the Bill to outside Brentford station, where he proposed we get a taxi to the ground and asked me to hail one down
I thought what a kind gesture, but found that Bill wouldnt get out until I coughed up half the fare, he then pointed me away as he headed for the Directors box !
Nice perhaps but certainly careful with his dosh and generosity to a young fan?
As a regular supporter both at home and away in the mid to late 1960's and early 70's. I was travelling on my own by train for a Monday night match at Port Vale in Feb.1970. When I boarded the train from Euston to Stoke I bumped into Bill Rubin who asked me how I was getting home from the match that night to which I replied I had no idea but was hoping another Southend supporter at the match might be able to give me a lift back home. (also getting a lift on the players coach was always a possibility?). Bill then said leave it with me and asked me to join him in the buffet car. When we got off at Stoke we went by taxi straight to Vale Park and he told me to wait outside the players entrance while he went inside. Some 10 minutes later Bill returned and handed me a complimentary ticket and told me to come back to the players entrance at the end of the match and I would be getting a lift back home with Blues Secretary Keith Holmes who was taking Peter Hunt to the England U/18's Team hotel in London before dropping me off in Little Wakering. I arrived back home in the early hours before going into work later that day. Yes, Bill Rubin was a very kind man most certainly to me back in the day, and just one of the things I still treasure to this very day.

I thought i read a post somewhere , where RM stated he was the one that broke off the sponsorship with PG site services ,it wasnt PG that broke it off, RM didnt give a reason as to why though

What do you think will happen then?

So taking the original post:

If we start next season under Ron Martin then its likely we will be under an embargo with half a squad and no chance of securing a sponsor

  1. Being under an embargo does not mean we won't get a sponsor
  2. Having half a squad does not mean we won't get a Sponsor
  3. I don't think we have no chance of getting a sponsor
We haven't suddenly become poor payers.
We haven't suddenly had problems with HMRC.
We haven't suddenly become embargoed.

Sadly these are all familiar issues.

Last time we were in this much trouble was 2010. We have had sponsors every year since then. We have signed players every year since then. We have had financial issues since then.

This year, we have a new training ground almost finished and the club has very publicly been put up for sale.

I'd argue, just based on my personal opinion that this could be a very positive summer.

I always daydreamed about the airport on the front, Ryanair across the back

I've actually always thought we'd eventually have some sort of sponsorship from the airport, especially when it was doing really well prior to the pandemic. You used to see many teams local to smaller airports being sponsored by the likes of Easyjet or FlyBe. Perhaps they've been there and done that and realised it's not worth the hassle?
