Seeing the other thread on the 1500th game at the Hall with a discussion about players at their peak, what would be the best ever squad we could select?

The criteria is to have players who DIDN'T play for us at their peak... this would probably exclude Freddy, whose peak was probably with us I would suggest. However, we could include Stan Collymore who reached his peak afterwards, plus someone like Neville Southall.

Shall we expand it to include management as well? That would usher in Bobby Moore, Paul Sturrock... however, let's see how we go. Players only I think.

Here's a few to start... fill in the blanks or make other suggestions

Keeper - Southall

Right Back -
Centre Back - Cort
Centre Back -
Left Back - Lampard

Right Mid -
Centre Mid - Ronnie Whelan
Centre Mid - Mike Marsh
Left Mid - Peter Taylor

Striker - Sir Stanley
Striker - Trevor Whymark

Subs -

Freedman
Powell

Chris Powell over Frank Lampard please. Chrissy got more caps but I think Chrissy was at his peak at Southend and not when he was belatedly picked by England.
Harold Halse over Trevor Whymark
Andy Ducat on the right wing (he was an inside forward/right-half, and probably the greatest sportsman that Southend has produced)

Can we have David Jack? I know he managed us, but I think he played a couple of games as player-manager.

Rob Newman at centre-half. Part of the great Norwich team who took Europe by storm.

Dean Austin would be a more than passable full-back as well. Probably better than Kenny Brown.
