Tomorrow's referee is Steve Rushton from Stoke.

In his fourth season, he has refereed Southend twice before the first one being the high scoring defeat at Bristol Rovers three years ago when he cautioned two from each side and sent off Moussa. More recently he did the home match against Wimbledon last season which we won 2-0 and once again he cautioned two from each side (Grant and Hall for us).

His card count until this season has been below below average but something seems to have gone awry this year as he has 33 yellows and SIX reds from just 9 games.

His father was also a League referee in yesteryear. *

His assistants will be Adam Matthews from Gloucester and Mark Pottage from Wincanton with Andy Davies from Bournemouth as 4th official. Their efforts will be overseen by assessor Paul Melin who was thrown off the League Referees List a while back.

* when I last wrote this comment about this referee, I got a swift response from Harry:

A ref who knows who his father is? :stunned:

He seems to have been a great guy; I wish I knew him better than the brief exchanges on messageboard threads !
