The Realist
I don't know about the level of negative posts towards the team after today's victory, but the amount of negative posts towards the originator of this thread are a bit much aren't they?
I think the one word most of us are feeling tonight is relief - That match could, and possibly should, have gone horrible wrong for us.
I am over the moon we scored 5 goals, but if I am being honest, that scoreline had more wallpaper on it to cover the cracks than B&Q's!!!
The performance tiday was, less be honest, worse than that against Rovers during the week, and when you consider how poor Dagenham actually are, that has to be a concern.
In any match, at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is the result, and we are into the 4th round, and if we get a big team on Monday, then no one will either care or remember how badly we played today.
The only positive thing to come out of today, which is an odd thing to be saying considering we just scored 5 goals, is the lift in confidence this result will hopefully give the players. They will know that they managed to play poorly and yet still score 5 goals, so that should put them in good spirits for next Saturday's game against much tougher opposition.
The original sentiment of this thread is true though, and if you are a footballing purist then you have to have serious concerns about what is going to happen next Saturday. The performance today was by all accounts woeful, with only a few players to survive with any real credit.
I think Lewis Hunt was superb, and should have won MOTM, and praise as well must go to Charlie Mac, Dean Morgan and Simon Francis for the way he took his goal.
The original post was a valid one, and should have invoked debate, not criticism for airing his opinion, however misguided you think it was.
To conclude, IMO, I am ecstatic at being in the hat for the next round, and I am of course pleased we have notched 5 goals, but I am also realistic enough to know that 2 goals in injury time against 10 men put a VERY flattering edge to that scoreline, and as pleased as I am, I will certainly not be under any illusions about what this result really means.
