Promotion doesn’t matter… does it?

Nervous doesn’t even begin to describe the feelings I have for tonight’s game against FGR. Haven’t felt like this since the Stevenage one at Roots Hall 10-years-ago.

Therefore I’m employing the ol’ schoolboy tactic of trying to trick/convince my brain that it’s not important tonight & even if our season comes to an end, it won’t be devastating as we have plenty to look forward to next season. Such as:

- Long weekends in York and Cornwall. Maybe even Newcastle too.

- An abundance of relatively local away days

- No ridiculous KO times, such as Thursday or Sunday evenings.

- We’ll be among the favourites for promotion, and this time we’ll have no hinderance with delayed takeovers.

- God awful International breaks won’t affect our fixture list

- Another tilt at the FA Trophy

Any others I’ve missed?

That doesn’t impact League One & Two, unless one of the sides has 3 players on international duty. Sorry.

You know, I thought I was the only one who felt like this. We've done a lot better than I could have imagined and getting into the play-offs is a fantastic achievement. After what's happened over the last few years I'm grateful just to have a club to support. Not wining tonight won't be a massive disappointment, just a pointer that things are finally going the right way.

To be honest, the Rochdale game was one of those big nights that will live long enough in the memory that I won't be broken hearted even if we lose tonight after a campaign where we didn't look like making the play-offs for 95% of it. If we can keep the core of the team, I think we can have a real crack at it next year.
The problem is that, should we lose tonight, we'll have to get rid of KM and half the squad because they're not good enough. Or at least a handful of people will tell us so.

I was surprisingly calm and reflective at 3-1 down on Thursday, for a lot of those reasons you have just mentioned, however the comeback maybe has got us all a little giddy.

Obviously going up will be amazing, and there are no guarantees that we will not be in the play offs next season if we don’t. Or we could be in York’s position, but there are benefits.

So no matter what happens tonight, enjoy the ride, reflect on a season where it’s not been great at times, but overall play offs would of been pretty much everyone’s realistic target given the situation at the start of the season, so ultimately a success and a platform to build on.

The major problem is Southend are my team.
Yeah, I want them to be successful but it's the ups and downs that add to the ride.
I got as much pleasure watching the 1200 going ape**** as we scored four goals at Rochdale as watching the game.
There was a video from the Rochdale side that was Cinerama in its scope. Loved every second, and cheekily will be able to go on the Truro supporters bus next season to the Hall, lol!

Not the end of the world at all if we don’t go up as I was prepared to write this season off months ago given the disruption to the start of it.

I wouldn’t be surprised if getting promoted is actually ahead of COSU’s schedule. I know they’ve mentioned about how much promotion is worth in monetary terms, but I wonder how much more money has to be invested into the squad to compete, as well as bonuses, promotion wage increases etc. and whether we’re still in the green as a result. Hope it doesn’t cause a headache with the money recently invested off the field if we do go up!

I said exactly the same this morning to my friend. I likened the match to when England beat Colombia on pens. There was such a weight lifted from the nation that we finally beat a team on pens, that anything else was a bonus. The Rochdale match was such an overwhelming crescendo to the darkest of times, that it felt like anything else is a bonus.

I also sent pictures of the training shots to another friend yesterday who used to work for Southend academy years ago, as he was aware of the state of Boots and Laces. I was filled with so much joy and pride to see such an amazing setup and see how far we've come and how brilliant our club is becoming. He voice noted back and said, "That looks amazing mate! Boots and Laces was a joke and was like a Saturday football teams base. You're now looking look you should." That's so right!

Irrespective of tonight, we've come an unbelievable way from that disastrous abyss we were all staring into last year. We can't lose sight of the bright future ahead, despite any possible immediate disappointment tonight. Whether we are playing Shrewsbury or Sutton next season, we have a club to support and a club to be proud of. Now let's go smash those tofu t***ers!

WE HAVE A CLUB!!! EXACTLY.

I actually like the away days in the national league.

But next season can be so march harder than this season.

York
Carlisle
Oldham or FGR
Dale

The league is far more northern next season.

All of the above want to escape the graveyard of non league.

It won't be the end of the world to not get out of the league this season but I'd really like that Wembley day out at the expense of FGR, who let's face it, are a rich man's play thing.

Would still be nice to go to Truro, York, Gateshead and a few others.

But we have a great chance here

Still plenty of local-ish ones though Tom.

Boring Wood, Sutton, Woking, Wealdstone, Alder****, Braintree. Boston and Eastleigh aren’t too far away either.

Other than Braintree we only have Boreham, Wealdstone, Aldershot and Woking around the m25 from memory. The league will have a lot more travel next year

More smaller clubs in the NL. So good opportunities to sneer "Tin pot" at someone who has just beaten us 1-0.

Then claim its the worst game you have ever seen. Maher needs to go with immediate effect and anyone who disagree with you needs to explain themselves......Then completely ignore their fair and reasonable response by repeating yourself over several threads.
