Pros and Cons of a consortium setup

TrueBlue

SJP Taxi & Private Hire ⭐️
With the announcement of more potential consortium members it got me thinking of the old saying ‘too many cooks can spoil the broth’

I will admit to not having much info on how that kind of setup has done for other clubs.

Is there a potential here for said consortium to pull in different directions?

Don’t get me wrong this is an exciting time and another world to having Rat 🐀 running the show, so this is no way a negative post.

I guess my only thoughts are is how this setup works in practical terms.

Any thoughts guys and girls?

I think it would get to a stage that too many consortium members could cause problems like you have suggested (pulling in different directions etc). I guess there must be a dispute resolution mechanism in place though...if half the consortium believe in plan a) and half plan b), how does the decision get made?

I'm comfortable at the 6-8 person level, but if it keeps increasing I would have some concerns.

This is how most big companies are run.

It’s a good thing to seek to build consensus rather than be run to the whims of one man’s ego.

In practice I expect Tom Lawrence to run the club on a day to day basis. He’ll have to answer to the board of directors, which is likely to be made of all the consortium members (or their chosen representatives). Board decisions will be put to a vote. Consortium members might get involved in different projects (eg Kreyling and Arnold on the Community stuff) that align to their interests and expertise.

You must be super concerned about the likes of Apple, ExxonMobil, AstraZeneca, Unilever etc then.

Does not matter how many names come up Untill we rid the club of that horid little man .Thats all it will be talk The longer this take over goes on the more his ego with grow .And the worse he will get .

I don't believe any of the Consortium would have committed without an upfront collective agreement on individual roles, Justins position as 'Head' of the group, the process for decision making ie required quorum or casting vote authority, intended strategies with 'target' timescales. All business practices that will be second nature to these guys. None of them have to be part of it and are involved because they want to be and are all savey enough not to go in blind on any level. The set up and formation is more in-line with a group of trustees than a board of directors, hence the early expression of Custodians used in the original announcement of a sale being agreed in principle. I feel confident that progress will not be hindered by a lack of a predefined or agreed direction.

It will all depend on whether members of the consortium are shareholders and/or directors, If a shareholder only then little involvement in the day to day in running the business whereas if a shareholder and director much more involvement.

I think it likely that not all shareholders (consortium members) will be directors as the company doesn't warrant 6-8 directors.

In addition there will be Articles of association which form a document that specifies the regulations for a company's operations and defines the company's purpose. The document lays out how tasks are to be accomplished within the organization, including the process for appointing directors and the handling of financial records.

We have a squad of max 16 that are clearly pulling together in the same direction. Every week it doesn’t change NEVER GIVE UP. If the consortium has been put together in the same way then we are in for some really positive times ahead. My feeling is that it will be but guess we will have to wait and see

Touché that’s a good point - just hope for solidarity

Another saying is a camel is a race horse designed by a committee.

As you say pros and cons but it really depends on the quality of the individual v the unity of group. As we know in football both have worked and both have failed miserably.

In Justin we trust They say good things are worth waiting for. Let's just hope the waiting doesn't go on for to long .The club the players And fans need it
