Pubs in Southend

Full Back
Hi
Can anyone recommend any pubs close to Roots Hall which allows away supporters in for Saturday? Remember last year that there was a number of pubs close to the ground but they had signs saying home fans only.
Thank you in advance.

The Railway pub directly opposite Prittlewell station has been letting in away fans so you should be good and it's only a short walk to the ground.

There's not much else near the ground for away fans though, The Blue Boar and the Spread Eagle are generally home fans only although I haven't been in either for a while now.

If you want a decent pub that's a little further away you could try The Cricketers, does some decent food in there as well and there's always The Last Post which is a Wetherspoons opposite Southend Central station off the High Street but this is a little further away.

Small groups of well behaved away fans are usually welcome in the Shrimpers Bar at Roots Hall.

West Road Tap

Small venue, but very good selection of proper beers and ales.

Always good to chat to away supporters in there
Very true but then I have seen a few "wot no fosters or hieniken?" lads get confused about the "tap" idea.
The Saxon King will likely host a few away fans and is but a short stroll across Priory Park?

The Railway for away fans? You sure? Mind you I’ve not been in there for ages ..

The Railway is probably the nearest to the ground! There were quite a few Wrexham and Notts County this season so welcomes away fans.

What sort of thing are you looking for?

Southend has everything from expensive craft beer establishments to expensive flying bottle fighting pubs.

Hi Mad
I am certainly no drink connoisseur, so happy enough with anything which sells Carling or Fosters.
Not looking for flying bottle fighting pubs however if it is close to the ground, happy to give it a shout.
Thank you to everyone for taking the time to post.

Hello @statto_smfc We don't drink that muck in this town, you'll need to stop off in Basildon to drink that peewater.

Really find it astonishing that people still drink Fosters and Carling. There are so many amazing beers and ales on tap in most pubs these days.

In my teens I drank a lot of Kronenberg and Red Stripe, had a can of the latter recently, god it was awful.

I digress…
Carling is a vile drink agreed but fosters has approved over the years and is perfect for the boozer who wants a few pints, but doesn't want to be carried home.

Not drank Fosters for at least 20 years.

Whatever happened to Castemaine 4X ? Aussie lager was a big thing back in the day, never see that anymore.
