Tilly is a good example to any young player at Southend who has a chance to better themselves. He could have gone places as a player and then as a manger. He didn't and now manages Basildon ladies.

In a very short and risky career you have to take a good opportunity. Better to regret what you did do rather than what you didn't do.

Surely lessons have been learnt from the last time we went large in this division....we were a paul sturrock away from oblivion and a list of professional footballers not paid.

Anything's possible Lee. Only time will tell.

Just been chatting with a Sheffield fan on holiday who knows Chris Wilder well. Apparently despite signing a midfielder SUFC still very interested in Lenny and reckons a deal might even be done today. Don't know credentials of the source but will wait and see.

If anybody is still wondering why players who are offered life changing money want to take the opportunities rather than wait, the news regarding Coker may offer a clue. It's a short career in which things can change very quickly.

Exactly - if it had been Leonard breaking his leg yesterday we would have been a player down and £500k. It's folly not to sell -we don't get many chances to raise £500k.

Or walk away from long deals when 12 months and an injury away from being out of work...except players run their contracts down.... agents will recommend what lines their own pockets and so want to maximise the value in the next transfer which often involves running down a contract.

if I was the player I would think very hard about taking the security of a long term contract now, even if it meant less from a move down the line. You would think Ben's injury would make Lenny think- but the agent will be assuring him that he will never get injured, needn't worry, all in hand..

its a contact sport so anyone can get injured but selling your top player for £500k because there is a chance he could get injured is a bit glass half empty for me. The club are showing ambition by keeping him and I'm all for that.

Cant understand why it's folly- if we sell and miss promotion by one point look forward to a blizzard if critism of having no ambition and why did we sell.

if Ron feels on balance at 500k its better to retain his services for a promotion push than cash in its fine by me- ultimately his money
