Recording a Southend Song today

TerryintheWest

Guest
I know that this is very short notice but there is a recording session this afternoon at about 1 or 1.30 at Belfairs School to record a Southend song which will be played at Cardiff and hopefully issued afterwards if the necessary permission is granted.

Mick Gaster, a member of the Shrimpers Trust has done a lot of work of his own back to set this up. A backing track has been laid down and he has permission to use the BBC Essex commentary of the Bristol LDV games on the record. He has some players going along to the session and now he needs a dozen or so fans to singalong to complete the gig. If anyone is available to go along and have a giggle recording this song please let me know on here and I will co-ordinate things.

Mick has stressed that you don't have to have a fine singing voice to take part!!

Sorry boys,

would love to be there but I can't attend and I support the best team in England, Watford, anyway.

See you later guys.

I am not having a dig, but a little bit more notice would have gone down well....

I bet if someone invited you to a participating dogging session over two tree island with *insert object of affection* at the drop of a hat you'd be there like a flash.
Unfortuantly as my beloved can sniff the scent of a scampi and lemon moment from 100 yards I wouldn't...
..........and so can moan that the song invite is at very short notice.

Artisically well put, but no I wouldn't, as my missus has an inbuilt radar system as well.....

I like it too Artful and wouldn't mind getting a copy. Dave - you're media manager, how about it?

Surely it wouldn't be too tricky to put up an mp3 that we could pay 50p for?

Back to the original song.

Does anyone have a link to the lyrics?  I know they were printed in the Echo on Tuesday, but I've mislaid my copy & I'd like to show them to my boss (who was the only QPR fan in the ground at the end of last years LDV game as we'd locked him in our box to make him really suffer!

).

He doesn't quite believe that we're singing to "My Old Man's a Dustman" and thankfully has offered to pause the video he's making for me should it come up in the pre-match shenanigans.  No offence intended to anyone who obviously put much effort into this, and it may be stereotyping the song by default, but Chas'n'Dave aren't my cup old "Rosey Lee".  Luv a Duck etc etc

Piers Cor Blimey

PS.  Anyway I thought "We're not Cockney's we're Southenders" was our unofficial motto!

Is it this one?

Stevie Tilson said I want to build an army (build an army)
That has a huge battle cry (battle cry)
Where the soldiers stand up and shout
SEA SIDERS
And we’ll fight for the Shrimpers till we die

And we’ll follow you when you play at Cardiff
And we’ll follow you when you’re far from home
And together we’ll conquer the WHOLE WIDE WORLD
For at Southend you will never walk alone

For I’m proud to be a Seasider
I live at Roots Hall
That’s where the mighty Shrimpers
Play the best football

We’ve got Darryl Flahavan in our goal
Spinner at the back
Kevin Maher in midfield
And Wayne Gray in attack

We’ve got Marky Gower and Nic Nicolau
They’ll run rings round you
Adam Barrett local lad
A Shrimper through and through

We’ve got Lewis Hunt and Super Cheese Wilson
And a man from Grays
Named super Freddy Eastwood
Who’ll bring back our glory days

We’ve got Mark Bentley and Superpetts
They can run and run
And magic Lawrie Dudfield
Who scores goals for fun

We’ve got Jimmy Corbett and young Kites
Bart and Duncan Jupp
Now we’re all off the Cardiff
To bring back the cup

Fade in with commentary of final whistle then either

Cos we are seasiders, We are the seasiders or
Come on Southend, come on Southend

Didn't think that was what was in the Echo, or was that just their spoof version? If so I'll get my coat!
biggrin.gif

The Echo version was:

My old man's a Shrimper
He wears a blue and white hat
He thinks they're all fantastic
And we agree with that
He really loves his Southend
Adores the team in Blue
Yes my old man's a Shrimper
A  Shrimper through and through

Radio commentary: goals from first leg

Oh, my old man's a Shrimper
He wears a blue and white hat
He thinks they're all fantastic
And we agree with that
He can't wait for the weekend
To go down to Roots Hall
And watch the mighty Southend
Play some great football

Radio commentary: Wayne Gray's goal

My old man's a Shrimper
He wears a blue and white hat
He thinks they're all fantastic
And we agree with that
You can see him with his hat on
And you can hear him cheer
We are the Seasiders
A team that knows no fear

Radio commentary: Freddy's goal

Oh, my old man's a Shrimper
He wears a blue and white hat
He thinks they're all fantastic
And we agree with that
I said "will they bring the cup back, your supermen blue?"
He said "yes, we'll bring the cup back
And we'll get promoted too

Radio commentary: final whistle, 2nd leg

Oh, my old man's a Shrimper
He wears a blue and white hat
He thinks they're all fantastic
And we agree with that
He really loves his Southend
Adores the team in Blue
Yes my old man's a Shrimper
A  Shrimper through and through

BLUE ARMY, BLUE ARMY
BLUE ARMY, BLUE ARMY.

Back to the original question, will it be available to buy?

sorry to interrupt but just looked at official site...
1 - nice pic of Marisa and Claire in story about LDV merchandise being available online...shame the link doesn't actually take you to any merchandise, couldn't find it at all.  Am I thick (computer illiterate!)
2 - manager of the month equals kiss of death?

Probably about as "**** a hoop" as I would feel a "Toby Jug" singing it.

Like I say, no offence intended but I'd rather not go to the Millenium Stadium & then have to pretend to be a character from Eastenders.
