Revell and tactics

I think Revs is another Charlie Mac, but his height edges it out. We have given a good chance to Revs to show what he is worth too.

I actually think Rev can offer a lot more than Charlie Mac. I saw a lot of good play from him yesterday. Really hard worker and would like to see him get another goal soon to keep his confidence brimming.

Strange how we view things differently. For me the only revelation about Betsy is how bad he has been.

I am not about to start a poll on this, but I'd imagine you're in the minority who think that. Besty has contributed to a fair few goals this season, his running at defenders is superb, and his positional sense, i.e. getting into positions to allow others to bring him into the game is second to none. How many times has a ball been played inside the full back this season and he got onto it? I don't believe anyone else on our flanks has done that for some considerable time. Your opinion of course, and I respect that, but I am having a hard time trying to understand how you came to that conclusion.

Revell isnt good enough. ever has been never will be. Dougie and Barney might well have made the difference today, purely by keeping the ball in the Col U half when we were struggling. Our front two didnt manage it.

I am not sure how you can say that really. Before he joined us, he was top scorer for Brighton in the same division as us - So if he was good enough then, he is certainly now. If you are purely judging him on his goals ratio, then yes, perhaps you have a point. However, if you judged Emile Heskey on his goal ration, you would also say he's not good enough gor the Premirt League or England. The simple truth is that whoever plays alongside Revell seems to perform better alongside him than anyone else.

It is a cliche to say that a striker who works hard is not good enough - but to say thats all he's about is grossly eunfair. His aerial prowess is superb, and his flick ons and hold up play are both effedtive and highly intelligent. The fact that he runs his knackers off harrying and chasing defenders down will ultimately lead to mistakes being made by said defenders and will inevitably create goal scoring opportunities for us. He is, what I would term, a proper Centre Forward. No, he won't beat 6 players and arrow a rocket into the top corner from 20 yeards, but he will thrive on service, and if that service is forthcoming, he will both score and create goals. I presume you saw the lay off he did for Laurent to notch at Bristol Rovers last week?

I actually find it quite worrying that some people do not seem to understand how important someone like him is to the team.

revs must be a dream to play alongside with,he gets battered and dishes it out thus softening up defenders, yesterday his service was zero and he was forced to chase lost causes.

i reckon he if given a long run in the team will net a decent haul

One of the things I like about Revell is that winning a header actually means knocking it to one of our guys. He uses the ball very intelligently and normally picks the right ball to play.

I cant make a judgement based on how he played for Brighton though. I can only base it on what he does for us and my point was, and you actually quoted it, he was unable to hold the ball and keep it in the Col U half when they were battering us. Dougie and Barney would have made a better job of it, in my opinion. I wasnt even going to mention his "shot" in the first few minutes.

With everybody fit, who would you see as our first choice strikers? I would go with Dougie and Barney every time.

Honestly? I think I would go with either Barney, Freedman or Laurent alongside Revs.

I wouldn't have done a few weeks ago, but he has earnt his right to keep his shirt when all are fit, and it would send out a very bad signal if Tilly sropped with of the current front two when Barney and Freedman are fit.

They have to earn their places back in the start line, but don't ever under estimate the merits of a tall man/short man partnership up front

The most positive thing about all of this is that we actually now have 4 strikers who, aside from injury, are all in very good form, and it's about time Tilly had that kind of selection headache up front rather than the one he had 2 seasons ago when it was Bradders, Hooper or Harrold!!

If all the strikers were fit i reckon i'd opt with Freedman & Laurent. Freedman can provide the service that Revell has but probably for a shorter length of time. At the moment, even if Barney and Freedman were fit id stick with Revell and Laurent though, they are doing well to together and you break that up you might not get it back again
