“The chairman regularly dissects the outcome of matches with the manager and players,” said a club spokesman.

That is a load of cobblers and the club are trying to play this down...RM was nothing to do with the football side of the club until recently, he was looking after the stadium side of things. I don't think we have heard the last of this by a long shot.

Just as a matter of interest, if any one of us 461 in attendance at Aldershot had come into contact with the team after the game, would we have said "Well played lads, unlucky."?

If RM wants to start discussing tactics with Sturrock then that's a cause for concern... the bloke knows little about football by his own admission.

But any owner, director or fan that witnessed that rubbish on Tuesday - if the game was still going on we wouldn't have scored - would be entitled to tell the team exactly what they thought.

I'd actually be more bothered if Martin said nothing and was apathetic about the whole thing.

And John, why would the club play this down? This isn't a Mohsni post match debacle or a case of a player overstepping the line... this is the owner. Surely he, more than anyone, has the right to be critical if he chooses to be?

I wouldn't want him picking the team but there's no reason why the bloke can't say what he feels... and I'll bet when they play well (Northampton away for instance) he congratulates them.

Personally I can't see a problem with this and I do feel this is just another opportunity for the anti Ron brigade to put the boot in.

This is a tough one. I started the other tread about his actions at HT cos I was concerned about what he was up to as the game hadn't finished. As a chairman, he shouldn't be interfering during the game but surely he has the right to do what he wants at the end of it. As uncomfortable that it makes me feel.

I truly think you had to be there to understand why he would do it. Thats the worst game ive seen in 25 years-even worse than Donny away. He pays the wages and has a right to voice an opinion. If he didn't, there would be people saying he didn't care if we went up or not. Given half the chance, most of the 461 would have given either the players or Luggy a few words of disgust.

As an isolated incident he is in his right to do it, but is this just the start of Ron "The Ego" getting involved again?

I had my reservations about TB but he was the barrier between RM and club. Now there is no TB, RM can start playing god again which worries the hell out of me.

Well said. firstly let's hope that he is paying the wages, given his past record in this area. Also many fans would argue that they pay the players wages and have their right to say what they think, and whether we like it or not Martin owns the club and as such has the right to bollock under performing staff. All bosses in all walks of life do it, however IMO it should be done in private.

I didn'y go Tuesday but for a worse game it will have to go a long way to beat our last game under Whelan when we capitulated to a team of kids from Huddersfield 3-0 at home.

This meddling by Ron is what caused the problems between players and management last time. I cant imagine the current crop would of been very happy with his rant on Tues night. This seems a typical Ron pattern...

Go on a rant, **** everyone off. Think oh **** what have I done. Release a statement playing it down. Release a statement with some 'good news' on FF. And repeat...

Lets hope the next one is not 'the banks forgot there were only 29 days in Feb, not 31. So your pay will be a little late boys'

So it's ok for the Chairman to rant at the players but the paying fans are condemned if they boo them at times and don't show loyal support 24/7.

Hmmm.

I know you are very much anti RM but don't let that discolour the situation. It is reported RM went into the dressing room and gave no doubt as to his feelings about the abject display he had just witnessed. Thank you RM for speaking on behalf of all those that care about the club. It needed saying and if those same players want to react to it in a negative fashion then I hope they get their P45 quicker than Benyon gets his first goal. Ron 'marmite' Martin is on a hiding to nothing whatever he does but in this instance, for me, I hope he gave the players both barrels.

As long as it's a one off he is quite within his right to do so. But, I wish he would just shut up and comb his ****ing hair. ****!

Up the blues!

As owner of the club RM is entitled to an opinion! I'm sure if any one of us owned Southend, after that performance, would have done the same.

To be honest, as long as he is paying there wages i should imagine he is rightly concerned, how a side near the top of this league for most of the season can be so awfull. Imo much more of this inconsistent form from Southend and might well have long hard look at PS tactics

Rab, its not so much that he's gone on a rant to the players again. Its the way he goes about it. Its not his place to steam into the dressing room and give them what for, thats Luggys job. And sort of undermines his position. Luggy doesnt like chairman that stick their nose into affairs and I wouldnt be surprised if he was more than a little ****ed off with it. This is what caused friction between chairman, manager and players in the Tilly era and we all know how that ended. He needs to engage brain first, before acting. But thats not his style and has caused countless embarassments for our club.

Sturrock's authority has been underminded by Ron's rant IMHO. Ron should of had a quiet word with PS, PS should have then given the players the hairdryer treatment.

If Ron isn't happy with the style of football that PS has got us playing then hand him his P45 and get someone else in.

Good on Ron I say. Pitiful performance, to not even register a single shot on target against bloody Aldershot! Performances in 2012 have been dire with one or two exceptions, we're playing like a bottom 4 team not a top 4 team. Must be frustrating for both PS and Ron that players can look good in one game and then be utter guff in the next. Some are simply not good enough to be playing for us. Hopefully it will get the right reaction on saturday.

A Chairman has had a go at his staff for underperforming, thats novel I wonder if that will catch on in other busineses.

Any idea why he had a rant ? I haven't read of anyone else who was dissapointed on tuesday :winking:

I suppose if a Portsmouth Supporter with a black eye had "had a word" that would have been just fine and dandy
