The second heat of today is one I have been looking forward to.A clash of the Titans for sure.

William 'Smokey' Robinson - Uncle Leo v Roger Waters/David Gilmour - Great Yarmouth

Over to you lot to decide this one.

Tough...I'm leaning towards the Pink Floyd duo, if not for Comfortably Numb and Wish You Were Here, trouble is a lot of Floyd stuff is pretty tedious otherwise.

This will do nicely as an opening gambit

I despise soul music with every fibre of my being, and Motown is the very worst of all - it just means absolutely nothing to me. I know lots of people on here are the total opposite, and I know Smokey will walk this, but my vote is with Waters and Gimour.

My starter for 10

Many thanks to Cricko and Pubey for getting me this far

This is THE toughest call of the lot for me, on one hand I love Floyd and having recently see The Wall live the night Gilmour came on stage makes it so very fresh still..On the other hand Smokey is just about my favourite Motown singer of the lot and wrote one of the best songs ever in "Just my soul responding"

Going to have to sit on the fence for awhile here and ponder...

I find the nomination interesting, Waters / Gilmour as a writing duo first appeared on Meddle (2 Tracks) which was Floyds 6th Album , previously they were either all members or as individuals.
as a writing duo they only had one track on DSOTM ,Wish you were here and Animals even the double album , the Wall, only had 3 Gilmour Waters tracks

I think the nomimation would have more strength if it was Wright/Waters/Gilmour as it would include a large number of songs from when Pink Floyds were decent , or may be just Waters on his own if its based on the later stuff.

I will be honest , I looked this up, but it was because I couldn't recall Gilmour doing a great deal when I did used to listen to Floyd and I wondered if he got involved more after I stopped paying any attention to them (c 1976)

Ok, time to make another move

I went for Smokey on the basis of his DIY advice he once gave me: I said "Smokey, do you like my paint job?"
Smokey said, "I do, but I'd second that emulsion."

I'm here all week.

Stevie Wonder co wrote the music for Tears of a Clown, Robinson the lyrics. Not a Floyd fan particularly although respect what they've achieved over the years, Smokey Robinson for me.

Lagging behind a bit here so I'll have to have another bash. Enjoy

I have decided to go for Floyd...I love Smokey's music, but you just can't beat this..

8 minutes of sheer magic.

Hello?
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone at home?
Come on, now,
I hear you're feeling down.
Well I can ease your pain
And get you on your feet again.
Relax.
I need some information first.
Just the basic facts
Can you show me where it hurts?

There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship, smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying.
When I was a child I had a fever
My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I've got that feeling once again
I can't explain you would not understand
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.

(solo)

I have become comfortably numb.

O. K.
Just a little pin prick.
There'll be no more AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
But you may feel a little sick.
Can you stand up?
I do believe its working. Good.
That'll keep you going through the show
Come on it's time to go.

There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship, smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying.
When I was a child
I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown,
The dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb.
