Our WhatsApp group somehow ended up on the above subject last night.

I put forward that both Chrissie Powell and Spencer Prior represented us in this glorious competition, but I think I was put right when a pal suggested that Cozy was called in as a last minute replacement for Spinner.

For younger Zoners who haven't got a clue what I am banging on about, kindly refer to the below;

But this got me thinking, who would form your all-time Southend United sprint relay quartet?

But this got me thinking, who would form your all-time Southend United sprint relay quartet?

Opening leg: Wayne Gray - former British schoolboys track star
1st handover: Dave Regis - believe he was cousins with Big John Regis so the ideal man for running that bend
2nd handover: Harry Cardwell - another schoolboy sprinter
Final leg: Stan Collymore - to take us home

I'm pretty sure the Lenny was one of the fastest players we have had.

He was able to stride and outpace all
Does my memory deceive me or did Derek Woodley not win the PFA sprint title or something similar during his time with the Blues.

No mention yet of Michael Husbands? The boy was rapid. He’d have fallen over before making the finish line, but he’d have got there before anyone else nonetheless.

What a performance that pre-season match with Gills was. They tried their hardest to beat us to his signature after that.

They had people waiting for him to come out of the changing room and take them with them. Looked more like a hostage situation then a transfer signing.
