Amazing to think that if results go our way then we could be top of the league by the end of the first day of 2013.

Firstly we would have to defeat all three of our opponents which in the current climate isn't impossible.

Here's what needs to happen:

Gillingham:

Loses next two and then to Southend as well.

OR gains a draw against the next draw and the Southend passes them on goal difference.

Port Vale:

Gaines less than 6 points in the upcoming three matches or gains 6 points and Southend move past them on goal difference.

Cheltenham: Either gains less than 7 points or exactly 7 points and doesn't exceed Southend's goal difference of 15 which looks highly unlikely.

While this all looks pointless in theory, it proves one point. Who would have thought that 2 months ago we'd be in contention to lead the league, yet alone be in the playoff or automatic spots.

Full credit to Sturrock and co, and up the Blues.

I'm not greedy, would settle for being in an automatic promotion place following the games on New Years Day. That, honestly, would be a tremendous achievement to Luggy, the squad and all the staff of Southend United, considering the start we made to the season.

I want to be top in May not Jan.
Definitely, I'd assume everyone would want that. I'm more amazed we have the opportunity given we were at least 15 points away from the top at one stage this season. Yes we are 8 points behind now, but the comeback has been nothing short of brilliant by the team.

One game at a time please. I'd be happy if we are still on our unbeaten run come 2013. I don't know about winning the league, but auto promo is a very realistic goal. I'd take 3rd place in May right now if you offered it to me. (And a 4th round sensational win at Old Trafford!) :winking:

Things can change just as quickly. Yes we're playing well but if we lose the next 3 and Gills win them all we're 17 points behind so it's all speculation. One game at a time.
