Simon Francis

Surely he'll be playing League 1 at either Bournemouth or Charlton though?

Bradbury is building a Southend old-boys XI at Bournemouth, Flavs has already joined him there, Franno possibly on the way and then this 2 hours ago from BBC Solent:

BBCSolentSport
KT at #afcb this morning - Adam Barrett is here and joining in training, but no confirmation that deal is done yet

Im guessing not as his contract expired or was nullified by non payment of wages

was it not a free but with a potental sell on fee..?????

Wikipedia states that Sturrock cancelled his contract.
Our OS states that he was "released", either meaning he was told he can move or had his contract cancelled. Although with the official article about him moving to Charlton stated that we got a fee and a 25% sell-on clause.
The Charlton OS states that they signed him for £35k last season.
BBC states that Charlton signed him for £35k, rising to £75k "depending on results" (promotion to the championship?).

On the BBC article, it goes onto say:

"The Shrimpers had previously agreed to release Francis from his contract, but wanted to retain the player's registration."

So from all of that. It looks like we didn't terminate his contract, but got £35k up front. Another £40k was up for grabs "depending on Charlton's success", which is most likely jargon for "promotion", so we won't be seeing that. With the 25% sell-on clause, we could be getting around £10k, if it not based on any profit, otherwise it could be peanuts.

i see simon francis is not going to bourmouth now as he could not agree terms with them, better off at charlton me thinks anyway, not sure if he will get as many games tho.

Has we got the sell on fees, we would got the 10k back to the Shrimper Trust for helping SUFC to pay for Scottish Tour :p
