So thanks to their progression in the FA Trophy, we’re hitting the road to Solihull Moors sooner than anticipated with the National League setting the date before Easter rather than after meaning this is the second of four games in ten days.
The Moors are going rather well again this season under manager Andy Whing, and currently sit in 4th place in the league with six games to go. They’re in decent form as well with their only defeat in the last ten games coming at home to Phil Brown’s Kidderminster at the end of February.
They’re likely to have a couple of very familiar faces in their squad with goalkeeper Nick Hayes, who helped us out between the sticks earlier this season, now on loan there from Ipswich. They also have Jon Benton in their midfield, a player that many of us would have liked to have hung onto instead of letting go to Aveley.
With so many games coming in such a short period, Kev is sure to rotate the squad now that he has more players available to him. The game on Saturday, which even he seemed to admit was poor, gives him the perfect excuse to do so.
One would imagine that Gussy will come straight back in and perhaps it’s also time for Adam Crowther to have a rest with Harry Taylor returning from injury. James Morton was not involved at all on Saturday, neither were Henry Sandat or Deon Woodman and one would expect they’ll make the match day squad at least.
We have the best defence in the league, conceding only 39 goals in our 40 games (16 fewer than champions Chesterfield have in their 41 games so far). It’s going forward that the three amigos are yet to find a winning formula - of the top 14 clubs only Halifax have scored less goals than us.
So who would you choose to start in the West Midlands on Tuesday evening, and what do you predict the result will be?
