I get the Sports Statistician, basically a statistics magazine that carries all the stats for all the football teams including specialist stuff like which referees give most red cards etc etc etc.

It basically is meant to assist with statistical betting.

Because of our recent form bookies price us up at very short odds for games now.

But the stats show a different view apparently... we have negative shots and corners home and away. That means other teams have more shots and corners than we do, so our goals for and against columns are misleading the market, apparently. The author advises punters to back against Southend, especially at Roots Hall.

Nice to know he has such confidence in us...

Probably a Borient fan...I must admit Ive only bet on Southend to get promoted, never on individual games...I dont have the guts

Incidentally, if you'd had a £1 bet on Southend for every game this season, at the best price available, you'd be £12.90 in profit.

That's better than any other team in the four top English leagues.

We've been odds-against for nearly all our games this season. The only exception I can think of is the home tie against Yeovil. We're 7/5 with Ladbrokes for Saturday's game at Donny.

Interesting stat. We winning the bookies table as well then...

Say we - are - top of the league Say we are top of the league

6/4 with Hills for saturday against Donnie, and 6/1 for the title

Huddersfield are favs at 9/2

6/1 for the title?

Weren't we 33/1 at the start?

It was a great night. But with an extra 500 pound in the pocket at the end of the season I could of had an extremely good May!!

Sounds like someone's been using the football anorak for their stats

Not too surprised by the original stat though. I've always found any sort of statistical betting a pretty bad idea unless you find a statistical model that is extremely well refined. In fact, I generally found that at this time in the season it's better (using a vague league position/form method) than post-Christmas when everyone starts getting results as the scramble for places begins.

Interesting stat, however it just goes to show how good we've been at putting our chances away - and we often score first as well, so opposing teams are having to chase the game and having pot-shots at goal....

Also, the title makes me wonder if you have been watching the Mighty Boosh fbm?

(Shotgun at least one person on here has seen the Mighty Boosh or else you might as well delete this)

And re The Mighty Boosh, I'm a big fan. Or am I?

Spot on. I saw in a programme recently (can't remember which one, Yeovil I think) that our shots/goals ratio is about 46%. Fantastic!

Teams are evidently trying to shoot from less dangerous areas against us, meaning they may have more shots but most of them are relatively harmless. On Sunday, Forest had precious few clear-cut efforts on goal, but had a few speculative pops, like quite a few other teams in this league.

Mind you, Eagle and Maher did their best to bring the stat down a bit on Sunday, especially if 'average distance missed by' comes into play
