Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0 - 1 Barnet

I liked Sandat but not sure if him and Powell are clicking at the moment. Wreh and Powell, whilst not prolific did have a partnership early in the season, I'd probably go for that if Wreh is fit enough and Cards still injured
Sandat and Powell may not be clicking but on that evidence Sandat wasn’t the weak spot.

Am impressed how he seems to improve each outing. He was irrelevant at Aldershot and then a match winner in his next two displays without playing well. But tonight he did play well. He held the ball better, his movement was good and he dropped into space. He’s still raw and I don’t think he should be playing at his age but we might have something there. He’s got a good frame and a bit about him. He has me intrigued.

Game turned on an inexplicable refereeing decision and the customary Blondy Blunder. In Blondy’s credit he did make a very good save from that one on one but I’m ready for even a half-fit Collin. The Barnet keeper was half-fit (was he kicking with his wrong foot? I haven’t seen a keeper look that unnatural Kicking since Roycie. I mean Blondy can’t get it within 20 yards of a teammate but at least he looks like he’s kicked a football before).

Thought Barnet caused us problems outnumbering us in midfield but we had the better quality and should have done better but it’s difficult to win without a forward line and a keeper. Tonight’s bench was the thinnest it’s been all season.

Barnet fan here who was at the game. Read a lot of comments on here not overly positive about our style. The interesting thing about our manager is he changes our system and style depending on the opposition. Today he bought in Diarra, big lad in midfield and put our Captain Gorman on the bench. We played 4 at the back usually a 3 so we didn't play our usual football at the back. Credit to us we came and adapted to play you. Yes we were touch tight and niggly, physical but we are able to match a team in a fight. We bought on Gorman last 25mins started playing more offensively.

You played some nice football but it felt like you wanted to walk it in. Some of your players are a bit tarty! The little body builder guy was useless up front. Way too many flicks from your lot. Hardly any crosses although you didn't have much to aim at.

The lad who had a chance in on goal before beard pulled him down should of powered on but slowed and dithered.

Jake Hyde wasn't the answer for us 8 years ago so he's not what you need.

Overall I would of taken a point but I think we edged it.

Great atmosphere, best of luck with that prick you have in charge. Fairplay to one of your fans who actually shook my hand whilst I was sitting in traffic wished me and my lad a safe journey back.

I was disappointed with Kev at half time. Their centre backs never lost a header first half, so I thought it's so obvious, he will change it and try and beat them on the ground 2nd half. But no, we still played the ball too high and they still never lost a header. It was a shame it was Sandat who burst through. Powelly should have been doing that, but he kept getting caught offside.

Stop hyping Dackers up as if he was something amazing... He scored 3 goals and one was a penalty!
Half of Jack Bridge’s goals have been penalties, does that mean he’s no good as well?

I’m not hyping him up anyway, I also didn’t say he was amazing. He was a decent option, who offered something different. He would have been more effective against Barnet’s style of play than Sandat and Powell.

Dackers wasn’t really the point anyway as we would have signed another striker on loan as cover if not him. Instead, we had to put an inexperienced midfielder up front because we have no other options. The embargo has definitely had an impact.

Barnet areJust this season's Boring Wood any half decent ref would have put a stop to the all in wrestling that teams get away with in this division, just anti football imo .
You're right about Hyde though if he's the answer what the hells the question

Good spot with the body builder …..if the strikers on the sick bed had body’s that could take two games on the trot then C.P would be 5th in line…..whoever scouted him got that one wrong. I don’t think he has ever gone round anyone and has the shot of a girl……Wreh to start next time please!

Obviously a game of opinions, but no.

The foul in the first half was as stone wall as a red card could get. Pic below shows the moment of contact. Don’t get me wrong, this doesn’t mean we’d have won the game, but it’d certainly have changed the dynamic of it.

Aside from a few routine (IMO) saves from our keeper, I didn’t think you troubled us too much. You didn’t control the game and certainly didn’t edge it. It felt like a 0-0 game for most of it, with The Bees intent on preserving a clean sheet & us unable to create many real opportunities.

Congratulations on the win. We couldn’t score down York Road tonight. On that showing neither of us will go up, but on the positive side I will look forward to another trip to The Hive next season, which may not be as good as Underhill, but is still a decent away day in this ramshackle division

Don’t think either side deserved to win. We tried to play the football, they came with a game plan and theirs won over ours.

we started well and Bridge should have done better with his shot. They hit the bar and a mass scramble followed. Then they prob should have had a penalty. Second half again we played some nice football and got in some dangerous areas but our continued lack of a cutting edge haunted us again. I’m not sure we’ve actually beaten any of the sides in the top 6 or 7 other than Barnet who weren’t anywhere near as good when we played them at their place. What they do have is a team full of big strong lads complemented by a forward line with pace. In the end 2 or 3 nil wouldn’t have been unjust based on chances.

I like our back line and midfield, but we need more goals from these areas. Up front with Chesterfield, Wrexham and Borehamwood to come is a huge concern. Sandat was excellent tonight, but the lad is 17, he shouldn’t even be playing so a big ask to play in a game like that tonight and the next week or so. Powell just embarrassing. It was like watching me play against my son in the garden when he was 4. Completely dominated and bullied by their big CB. Cardwell and even Murphy would have presented different problems for them.

but with the embargo still in place we have no way of recruiting long or short term replacements so we are stuck with what we have. Good to see Wreh back but he looked very unfit and lacking match practice

as for lopata, there are ways to leave and tonight he got it wrong. Turning up just before kick off to say goodbye and collect his stuff was wrong on every front. If anything watch the game and do it after the match. A very frustrating and disappointing evening. Need to bounce back now Tuesday but it’s going to be another tough evening

Again, I see lots of criticism of the strikers .. Powell especially (who really does look distracted and ****ed off recently) but I can’t believe some people are digging out Sandat. Yet another young player chucked in at the deep end due to injury who had a great game if you ask me. Little mention of Husin being totally ineffective or the predictable “get it to Bridge” tactics as he’s probably our best (only?!) creative option. Teams have figured that out.

Look we could have Haaland up top but we need to lay on proper chances! Again, we’ve struggled with a physical team who know the NL and we’ve failed to adapt our game.

As for Lopata..this is what happens when you **** about and don’t pay staff .. so that one’s on Ron if you ask me.
