Shame we didn't get another chance to see the stonewall Fortune penalty incident....
 
Just a quick one on the penalty , I read somewhere that offside was given . Could anyone clear this up , because in the day I thought that's as much of a penalty as you will see.
 
Strangely, the Oxford English Dictionary doesn't seem to refer to this use of the word 'stonewall', despite football managers using it constantly. Perhaps I should write to suggest they correct this oversight. To be fair, if 'Essex Girls', chavs and so on can be included....

My dictionary defines 'stonewall' as a verb; "to obstruct parliament by making unnecessarily long speeches".

D'you know what. I thought that, too.

The angle the referee pointed, suggested he had given a free-kick/goal kick, rather than a penalty, though we did get excited for a split second, thinking he had pointed to the spot.

This is where it's a shame the referee doesn't generally comment on decisions, post-match, as he could have cleared it up.
