What, being in the same division?
To be fair, Wes has a potential extension of his contract available and I don't see why it shouldn't be triggered. His movement is excellent and he is able to drop into spaces and link attacks with Bridge.
See for example the first two clips in the highlights away at Maidenhead. He also set up Sandat against Barnet (home) with a through-ball but sadly Sandat fluffed it; made the interception that led to the winner against Chesterfield; and also scored the winner himself against Altrincham in a game where he and Bridge caused havoc.
For what it's worth, an attacking midfielder will be high on the trio's list this summer but I don't see any harm in keeping Wes as well.
I think we should all chill out. We already have a decent squad and - assuming Ron is gone (please, please, please!) - will have the luxury of a proper pre-season for once. There will be new additions and we can have a real shot at the title.
I don’t necessarily see any harm in keeping Wes, but I fully believe that if he has a bad game, we do to. When he’s on song, we tend to boss the midfield, smother opponents & create ample opportunities.
The question is, is he consistent enough in this role? Personally I’d lean towards no, and that would beg the question is there someone who can play that exact same role, who would give us more consistency?
