Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 2-1 Altrincham

3 wins on the bounce certainly puts a different perspective on things compared to a couple of weeks back. I guess the 0-0 V Oxford although disappointing at the time did its job in stopping the run of defeats & helped turn us round. All I care about now is getting enough points as soon as poss to ensure we’re safe and then keep building towards a proper go at winning the league next season. For me the play-offs are a pipe dream this season.

Another very soft goal conceded, however the rest of the half we were relentless until we got the second just before half time. It was never going to be easy keeping up that pressure again and we managed the game out without Collin really being tested. We had the better opportunities and should have killed the game off.

Harry is starting to look sharp again, Dackers worked his proverbial socks off, and Crowther was excellent-didn’t miss Kensdale at all.

We looked knackered the last 15 minutes but held on easily.

Avoid defeat Saturday and three home games coming up we could be on a roll - League position only really counts after 46 games remember.

First half all blues apart from a gift of possession and a quality finish.

Really high tempo and putting lots of balls into the box.

Second half the game seemed to fade out a little.

Altrincham were quite cute in posession but blues put enough effort in to see out the win.

Dackers had his best game by far.
Crowther looks a talent
Demi is timeless
Bridge seems to be trying to get the ball in earlier.
Wez had his best game for an age
Nobody played badly but Cav will be dissapointed to have given away possession again for the goal against.

So much better going forward with pace and trying to find feet.

Without the 10 points deduction we would have been in the play offs tonight.

It will be a season of what ifs but next season should be a solid and exciting one.

Bring on Oldham

Watched from home tonight but close enough to hear a roar of the second goal before seeing it on the telly

Fabulous first half apart from the one missed place pass that we got punished for .
Wes was everywhere first half and we worked some fantastic angles to deliver crosses but unfortunately there wasn’t any real determination by the front 2 and midfielders to get on the end of 6 or 7 dangerous crosses into the six yard box

Altringham defended in numbers and broke at pace but we looked in control , 2 well worked goals put our noses in front and as nothing we didn’t deserve .

Second half was a professional performance , would of kept Cardwell and Wes on and gave Dackers and Husin a rest as he was on a booking and the ref was getting a bit reckless with his decisions

Overall a solid performance and begs the question that I only see Chesterfield as being superior to us in this league

If the NL were as wishy washy as the premier league we might have got some points back on appeal.! Still feels harsh in combo with the umbongo. But it's history now.
Miley has to learn or be dropped. 3 times now and enough is enough.
Overall an excellent effort from the team and loved hearing the songs for the ball boy in front of their 31 supporters .

Excellent first half, efficient second half. Well done lads. All performed well, although Cav Miley was guilty of unnecessarily giving the ball away several times in the first half. Fonguck and Dackers had great games. Crowther and Collin were towers of strength. Bridge, Husin and Ralph regularly overlapped well on the left and GSM occasionally on the right.

Onwaeds and upwards.....

Dackers looked every bit the 6’6 target man he will turn out to be tonight. Great touch, some lovely link up play, and great knock down for the equaliser.

Crowther is solid, no nonsense, good with his feet, strong tackler, good in the air. Brilliant signing.

Cardwell ran the channels incredibly well.

Thought Husin looked leggy at times but involved a lot and we saw the best and worst of Cav with that recovery tackle and his giving the ball way for the goal. Again.

Altrincham looked tidy on the ball but not enough to threaten us tonight.

Really important sequence of results these 9 points, steering away from any talk of a relegation battle nicely. I’d take a point at Oldham and 3 at home on Tuesday.

Well done the blues

The ten point deduction should be wiped clean when new owners take control. It should not be inherited.
Discussions about 10 point deduction and play off chances are about as futile as asking Napster to get a round in at the bar. None are happening. Get over it, we need to do enough to stay up, finalise the takeover and prepare for next season.

Great to see the Southend press back again today (at times).

A very decent result against a neat side. Front two worked hard, Dackers getting into his grove now. Wes, Ralph & Crowther all looked on top of their games. Miley needs to stop giving the ball away maybe a spell on the bench.

Impressive from Demi - 3 games in a week didn’t look out of place.

Collin - gets better & better

Collin 6 good handling, not much to do
GSM 6 bit anonymous after a lay off
Crowther 8 great signing, Lopata love going on already
Demi 7 experience shows , legs coping well
Ralph 8 a fit Ralph could play higher, player of the season
Miley 4 second goal he has given away in 2 weeks, Kev won’t drop the overrated one
Husin 6 so much ability but unfortunately most of it goes left and right
Bridge 6much more direct first half, back to tying himself in knots second half, crossing poor
Wezzz 8 quality on the ball, links well with Bridge, how the manager drops him is beyond me compared to Miley….scored a decent goal as well
Cards 7 much sharper this week and scored
Dackers 7 6 foot 6 , timing for headers is lacking but great skill and ability elsewhere , should start every game imo as getting better

Cards fitness is getting alot better, star man tonight for me.
Good win but still look fragile in midfield to defence, better teams will have joy against us but we also look great tonight going forward, we'll done Dackers also, getting alot of sh*t on here at times and for good reason but he's now starting to come good.
5 points off relegation. UTB
