I agree with most of the scores except I didn't think Thompson was quite as good as most. There were a lot of contested headers he did not win which Prosser/Barrett would have won . Conversely I thought timlin was better than most. Here, there, everywhere as usual plus a great shot in the first half and a great goal line clearence. Dan looked the most nervous I have seen him in a long long time (understandable). Barrett could easily have had a yellow, Cassidy continues to make great runs that no one on the pitch see,or see to late. I think Phil has got us an excellent strike force. Here's hoping neither are recalled

What a first half! Thoroughly enjoyed it. Timlin is a machine, plays wherever he's asked and always with the same commitment. Whoever said Brown came across Pigott by accident is forgetting the good relationship our CEO has with Charlton, I'm delighted he's found form and is scoring goals - just needs to learn to acknowledge the "Feed the Pig" song now. Cassidy was terrific too, some really good play in drawing players and getting important passes or touches in. Lenny back to his usual self, even to the extent of "falling" on the ball when he's "fouled". Back 4 were immense with Tommo the absolute stand out player - oh, and there was justified speculation Barrett might have started...Coker was struggling a little but they decided to stick with him.

Let's hope the prat who ran on the pitch doesn't cost us a fine as he very well could have. What a complete dick head.

Bentley - 7, solid, couple of wobbly moments and an important goal line clearance from Timlin meant another clean sheet. Don't think supporters helped his confidence with some very audible gasps at times
White - 7.5, typical JW performance, got forward well, offered little protection by Atkinson, almost scored
Thommo - 8.5, just immense. Really maturing into a classy and imperious defender
JBW - 7.5, blossoming into a confident CB
Coker - 7, a little subdued at times but still did the job
Atkinson - 7, good work rate, drifted too central at times leaving JW exposed
Leonard - 7.5, back on form
Payne - 7, felt the game passed him by a little as it went on, Cheltenham seemed aware of his reputation (probably Kane helped them in this)
Timlin - 8, love the guy, such an important player
Cassidy - 7.5, good work rate and some great positional play
Pigott - 8, two goals on a Tuesday night, not much more you can ask of him

Subs:
Weston for Payne - 6.5, would have preferred Shaq on at that point but we had become very narrow
Barrett for Coker - 7, what a reception, what enthusiasm, straight on and rallying the lads - welcome back Ads!
Hurst for Cassidy - 6.5, didn't quite get this one, no real point in looking for the extra width by then. Lucky not to get a red as well for that challenge

Ref:
Not bad, felt he let a lot go and missed a penalty when White was bundled over in the 2nd half

A final word on Kane Ferdinand. This young man was not a "Southend Reject", he was a youth team player that broke through to become an important player in our first team. He was sold on for good money and I felt the chanting was totally inappropriate. Would we do the same for Moussa? Answer, no, we wouldn't.

I think Barrett lloked shaky and a bit of a liability. Too many times he charged out of defence, got left stranded and was out of position. He doesn't have the pace to get back. Not sure if it was a good move bringing him back

Give him chance, buddy. That's a sweeping statement to make when he's only played a few minutes. Doesn't really know the other defenders yet and might have been eager to impress (hence bursting forward).

Shaky?.....Not a teddy boy quiff, flared denim, or green door in sight!
He looked pumped up and as eager/nervous as a teenager out on a first date.
PB did right IMO introducing him and getting the "monkey on the back" rid. Cokes was a tad out of sorts and certainly carrying a little injury.
Adam did look his age; no surprise there but he looked 34 when he was 24!
He listened to PB's instructions and did ok; & as a team & squad player I have confidence that bringing him in is not a bad decision however he didn't show enough to have me pencil him in over B-William for a start on Saturday if Ben is fit to start.

Excellent result !,since Phil went to 442 the goals are flowing and so are the wins, long may it continue.

The 442 myth, it has been tried before. Difference is this time we have players with muscle up front who not only made and scored the goals but are good at holding and challenging as well. Compare Butch and Pigott last night to Shaq and Weston at Luton. Their strength up top will also allow us the luxury of Payne to scamper forward and run at the oppositions back four.

I just with to add what others have already stated. Thompson was just excellent, what an improved player.
Also Leonard was more like the fine player we love to watch.

Slowly, slowly Brown is building a team to be proud off.

Spot on. Jack was causing all sorts of problems. Their two CB's couldn't do anything about it, cos they had their work cut out with our front two.

Re ; AB.

Thought he did OK, but probably wouldn't start in front of Thompson, B-W and Prosser. Not sure what's going to happen with Bolger now.

One good thing with AB is that he could be used as a kind of mascot.

Notice last night he started warming up and got the crowd going and immediately we scored our second goal!

Indeed and the goals hardly flowed against York or Shrewsbury either. (Not that's there's any shame in the latter as we still had more chances than them st home )

We have played 442 for 4 games and scored 1 goal in one , a penalty against York and done well against 2 of the worst form teams in the league. That's still a big improvement though with so many 0-0 at home recently at least we are dealing with teams that in the past we struggled against.

We should have gained a lot of confidence over the past week though and that's a massive factor in itself.

Hopefully goals will continue to flow on Saturday.

And if we end up in the play-offs, let's hope "our" strike force is still with us ............. :'(

Sorry - that sounds negative but I was (crudely) attempting to highlight that there is a vulnerability about the position ... we'll just have to be in the top three come 26th April.

Why wouldn't they be?
Their loans are till the end of the season

The Luton game will be critical. I have a feeling that we will need to be safely promoted by the end of that match because our last fixture is away to............bloody Morecambe who we can't seem to cope with at all. I've already booked my local accommodation for the night up in Lancashire and I pray that I will sleep soundly that night in the knowledge that we will be in League One next season.

Pigott and Cassidy looked so enthusiastic and hungry, if they made a mistake, got fouled etc they just got up and got on with it. I hate to say it, but very different attitude to Corr, constantly Discussing to the ref at any decision.

Im pleased people are seeing Cassidy for more than his goals ratio ..
Strikers score in partnerships it's important to remember this

I said when we signed Joe Pigott , if he scores 10- 15 goals for us we will go up , he is bang on target .
