had you remembered what was discussed the embargo this season wasnt because we are spending beyond our needs nowadays but because of a legacy bill that got thrown on us. we do need to offload some players but as Tom said the other night he doesnt expect another embargo so clearly we are in a much better position. If two more come in we will be carrying a number of players on decent wages who have very little chance of making the match day squad.
Yet a few short weeks ago we under embargo and seemingly penniless.
I am pleasantly amazed we can afford this present state of affairs.
It does underline just haphazard and dire our previous recruiting was.
There will be more than a few moving on before the beginning of next season
Moved about quite a lot in his career so far, all in the non-league scene so far: https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/callum-powell/profil/spieler/451588
Started off at Northampton, here's him showing off his skills as a 17 year old:
A couple of decent goals in this one (3:40 & 15:54) and an assist from a free kick (17:55):
Seems to be playing up front for them there, which would explain the 11 goals in 19 league games so far.
And also we are now working to a 32 point business plan with the budget for next season already in place.had you remembered what was discussed the embargo this season wasnt because we are spending beyond our needs nowadays but because of a legacy bill that got thrown on us. we do need to offload some players but as Tom said the other night he doesnt expect another embargo so clearly we are in a much better position.
A player I'd like to have seen us go in for is Dorking forward Alfie Rutherford who has 17 goals in 18 games this season (23 all comps) and was excellent against us last month.
He scored 14 at this level for Havant in 18/19.
He's 23 and just signed a fresh 2 1/2 year deal at Dorking. Will be interesting to see how he develops.
pretty sure all players are being paid if they was not im sure Cris phillis would know and report it if they wasnt .New sponsors have payed for a couple havent they? Its not transfer fees we have to worry about but ron paying the wages.
like to think we have him coming in .But ive noticed Northampton have been making noses about a signing about to happen .Only time will tell .
yes i know but they was saying there will be three new signins from the 26th so still have to wait hopefully it is not powellIdris Kanu has come through the door today at Northampton.
If it helps I’m not sure he’s exactly an up and coming prospect. He turns 26 this week so he’s at his peak now and he’s not so much a signing for the future as for the present and what we see now will likely be what we get. Assuming he’s signed at least an 18 month deal we’ll have him for his prime and there haven’t been enough players in the last decade who have peaked with us and we could say that about.Bloody hell I can't take us signing all these decent up and coming prospects. Need a lie down
Yeah was thinking the forseeable future. You know what rons like...pretty sure all players are being paid if they was not im sure Cris phillis would know and report it if they wasnt .
Direct, physical, gets goals. Sounds great in my book.I asked a Kettering fan I follow on Twitter to give his opinion on Callum..
It’s definitely a red flag (and one Zak Brunt needs to be mindful of) but his last move was a step up to NL North and this move to NL will be a second consecutive step up and moving in those circumstances is understandable. I think things below level 6 can be quite volatile with not much stability. Maybe it was the stability that helped him finally flourish? It would be interesting to hear from Stratford/Nuneaton/Tamworth/Buxton fans what his stints with them were like and why he moved on.It is a little bit of a worry that he seems to have moved clubs every single summer since 2015 apart from last season, which might hopefully mean anything contributing to the regular change has been / is being addressed. Let’s hope so. Could be that he needed to bulk up to make a physical impact in non-league. He certainly seems to have been working hard on that.
Yes, you are correct. Teams from National League South/North and below have a very large turnover of players during each season. It’s definitely a red flag (and one Zak Brunt needs to be mindful of) but his last move was a step up to NL North and this move to NL will be a second consecutive step up and moving in those circumstances is understandable.
