Spud Taylor

Yes agree he must be 63 at the moment. He played for Rochford Boys in the Sothend and District youth League. An due to his skill was 2 years younger than most of the other players. I played against him many times in school and youth club teams.
Remember playing against him in the youth cup final at the stadium at Southchurch Park. I was right back for Rayleigh boys and he was left wing for Rochford boys. We won 6.1 but could not stop Spud getting their goal direct from a free kick.
Happy Days

One of my last competitive games was for Courtlands Vets about 27 years ago - forward line. Malcolm Slater(Scotland under 21, Celtic and Southend), me( average local footballer), Bill Garner( Southend, Chelsea, Don Revies squad of 80) and Peter Taylor(Southend, Crystal Palace, Spurs, England etc)! Not a bad way to give up playing!!

Appointed Director of Football at Gillingham.
