Even though this is Southend we are talking about, I highly doubt we'd sign a key player, which he was when he signed, to a contract that would mean he would miss 2 months of a season.

Seems it's just some sloppy wording in the post on the OS, it goes on to say that...

The new deal will keep the midfielder at Roots Hall up until the end of the 2015/16 season.

If I remember correctly, Worrall tweeted after the play-off final that our promotion had activated a year long extension in his contract which was already until 2016. May be that we're negotiating a better deal or a 2 year deal with more options for extension. Think White was similar in that there was a clause activated but it may just be a case of making it a better deal for both parties, if they were on average League 2 wages I think they can get away with asking for a pay rise.
