Question Statue

I think if you do it you don’t have a statue of just one individual but instead have say 5 different players however I don’t think at this level we should be doing statues. In 20 years time half the fan base will never have seen any players that we would realistically choose ever play and the legacy isn’t something like that of Dennis bergkamp etc where they are extremely well known and decorated in terms of winning big things. The other thing is where would you put them.

If the statue of Ron is put in the drip tray of the West men’s urinal it would save a fortune in floor cleaning products. Well, it would if any were ever bought but you take my point.

With the nature of us being a lower league club, we don't have a lot of Trophies in the cabinet that have legendary players attached to them, and also players of any real ability are usually only with us for a short period of time before moving on.

Freddy could be in the conversation, and him curling in the free kick against Man U is the kind of iconic "freeze frame" image which is statue worthy.

Tilly and Kev, because of the amount of service they gave the club. There are probably more examples of players like that when you go back further into the 60s and 70s.

In light of Roots Hall being our forever home going forward, I think it should be Sid Broomfield.

Personally I would say Kev but I think it's too soon to do that to be honest (not that he hasn't done enough, I just think we should wait).

I'd be happier if we just started to show respect the the players that have earn't it at the club and not been shown it, a lack of testimonials etc, I'm aware of Kev and Tilly neither having got one but who else should have that didn't get one? Did White and/or Barrett earn them/get them? I can't recall

Stan. I honestly think we might not have a club now if it wasn’t for Stan. Arguably our greatest ever player who saved us from relegation almost single handedly, and then probably saved us again, this time from extinction, a couple of years ago by forcing the club to change.
Yep, got to be SVC, I took his sock from him after the Luton game in 93 and been my favourite player ever since. What he did then and more recently to kick this process off cannot be taken lightly

Tilson did get one didn’t he? I have memories of a game against an England XI for Tilson.

Agree though, King Kev definitely needs one.

Not sure White or Barrett “earnt” one through 10 years of service. JD is probably getting close as well.

Tilson defo did - as you say v an England XI including SVC and Chris Powell. I stood in the North Bank and still have the programme

Absolutely agree. Time to right the wrongs of the past and properly exorcise the ghost of the rats.

Kev, Tilly, Barrett, JD, Paul Sansome, Paul Clark, Ian Benjamin, David Webb and possibly Andy Edwards for me. Ralphy may get there but is a few years and a promotion shy for me.

In that list I would include Spencer Prior, an absolute rock.

This must be my mistake, as I say i can't recall it all that well, I would just like to see our former (and current) players shown respect, our history seems to have just been ignored under the current ownership and it should be celebrated.

Although Billericay’s looked horrendous under Tamplin, I liked the murial they painted at their ground.

Would like to see more of a nod to our past around the stadium, not necessarily a statue/s, but paintings from local graffiti artists perhaps of iconic scenes through the years. The back to back promotions under Tilson, the Man United win, play-off final win under Brown, Benji’s goal at Bury and so on.

Would have quite liked a museum of sorts at the new ground, but if we are to remain at Roots Hall, and redevelop, I’d like to see our history incorporated into that.

Although we are a modest club, we do have history, we have had success, and we’ve had some exceptional people at the Club that should all be celebrated.

I liked Billericay's mural.

I would be a lot more comfortable with 'the takeover' if God was part of the consortium.
