Southend United's Under-19 team are hoping to go one better than last season when they contest the Southend United Youth Cup at Roots Hall on Saturday and Sunday.

Ricky Duncan's young Shrimpers turned heads in July 2009 when Kyle Asante's second-half strike earned them a 1-0 semi-final victory over Arsenal's youth team and, although they lost to Everton on penalty kicks after a thrilling final 24 hours later, the tournament acted as a springboard for the likes of Asante, Daniel Bentley, Harry Crawford, Marcus Milner and Julian Okai to gain first-team recognition.

With the Shrimpers first-team not in action this weekend after Friday night's friendly at Salisbury City, why not come down to Roots Hall and cheer on the stars of the future?
