Tax for a 2nd job

I'm working a second job over the summer and I've just tried to phone those lovely people at HMRC to find out how much tax I'd have to pay over the summer. All the lines were full up (surprisingly) and instead of putting me on hold, they cut the phone off.

Does anyone know how much tax I'd have to pay? I've got a feeling it'll be around 20% (the same as what I'm paying now anyway). Oh and NI if that's possible too!

If anyone could help, that would be great.

Yeah we are. I know of people who work at Tesco's during the weekend and evenings to get extra money.

Send RM an email he has more dealings with HMRC than half the population of Liverpool.

Ok, then your 2nd job will be taxed at basic rate (Tax code BR) which as you say is 20%. You can work that out from your weekly pay. Also you'll pay NI for any pay above £105pw at 11%.

So weekly pay = £200
Tax = £200 * 0.2 = £40

NI = (£200 - £105) * 0.11 = £10.45

Take home pay = £200 - £40 - £10.45 = £149.55p

Works out better for me then if i've calculated it right.
