Thanks Kev - but is a new manager needed?

Should Maher go?

That's your opinion, and you MIGHT be right. But you don't know that. The only hard FACT is that we're 5 points behind them with 41 points left to play for, and that they are very much within reach.
It's precisely because of the fact that we are actually 6 points behind with 42 points to play for. Rochdale just below us have games in hand and we are yet to play other teams above us such as FGR, Altrincham, Gateshead etc. Our poor goal difference is another factor so realistically it's more like 7 points.

There will always br apologists and excuse makers for the present regime, largely based on sentiment. The evidence continues to mount up that the best we can ever hope for is mid table with a tantalising glimpse of a just out of reach play off place season after season. If COSU are content with that then they cannot complain if support starts to melt away and all the PR stunts in the world like the FAB won't make any difference. Year after year in this dreadful league is not a prospect that will bring 'sustainability'.
The fact that, since the mid-point of the season, we are behind only Barnet in terms of points gained seems to suggest the evidence isn't mounting up at all and is actually diminishing.

Because it is true and bears repetition to underline that no other manager would have been given so much rope. Most clubs don't wait around in the vain hope that things will change, they do something about it. Of course it doesn't always work but at least they tried.
By the same token, you could also say 'the club are trying to stick by the current management... which may not work... but at least they tried'.

Explain why please. The assumption by some that attending at RH somehow confers a superioir grade of support than watching on TV needs refuting, which I did

You know full well why.

Pretending your opinion is in any way more reasoned or valid because you’ve been a fan longer than some others, is just as absurd as the watching live vs on TV notion.

But you knew that, thats why you threw in the ”Johnny come lately” line.

None of what you have said in your post is any less of an "if or but" than the more optimistic posts on here. There's no reason why we can't take points off the teams you mention, and the slightly less pessimistic way to look at the Rochdale situation is that it's better to have the points, and the pressure is on them to pick up wins in their very congested calendar.

I think it's more to do with the fact that you said this:

There is an unpleasant and divisive undertone creeping into some posts

Having just used unpleasant and divisive rhetoric yourself:

There will always br apologists and excuse makers for the present regime, largely based on sentiment.

Interesting though the last raft of posts are, it looks like we've gone seriously off topic. In a way it's down to my post to @blues exile (#2010), but it also underlines my point that barbed prodding of posters you don't agree with just dilutes the actual main point of a post.

One last response, then I'm out. I didn't say what you’ve said above, you have inferred it. I said the level of criticism and negativity on SZ is higher than at RH and at away matches and I refuted another poster who watches on Tv and questioned whether I had gone to Maidenhead.
Equally, your opinion is no more valid than anyone else because you saw matches in the Ted Fenton era. If you think changing the manager will bring back Arthur Rowley style football, good luck with that !

For me, the key word in the question is 'thanks'.

Given that Kev has steered the club through the worst period in its history with one arm tied behind his back (when he could have walked at any point), I've been prepared to give him this season as a bit of a free-hit (unless relegation was looking likely), especially as we started behind everyone else.

Has it been enjoyable? No. Are there question marks about the future under Kev? Absolutely, but he's earned my patience for what he's done over the past couple of seasons.

Give him a proper preseason and no fruit drinks in the transfer market and then we can assess him properly - if we're in a similar position next season, I might change my answer.

Firstly I did name any specific poster. A question of if the cap fits. There was however one particularly obnoxious post which referred to those wanting Maher out as ' nazis' which has since been removed which was a good example of the point I was seeking to make.

As a Supporter, man and boy of 60 years I too could make reference to what 'football' I have witnessed both good and indifferent over the years, the changing times of formations and tactical philosophy the ever increasing usage of sports science and statistics over the years. Yes I like everyone have a personal preference on how I enjoy football being played and some great memories from the past to reflect on, but the fact is it is in the past! And seriously if anyone feels that this is the worst set of players and the worst football played then you are entitled to an opinion but you have to consider your opinion will include a rose tinted seed of nostalgia formed by memories we consider to be the best of times opposed to the realism and reality of the here and now.
And the reality is that in his current tenure KM has done nothing that warrants him being relieved from his post as it stands.

Going to games is what football is all about, always has been and always will be. In fact you can argue your views are skewed because you are sitting at home on your own watching a **** team on a **** stream - how dull...you are missing out on everything that makes football fun. It not surprising that the most negativity is coming from two people who watch football on the telly.

why bother if you know we're going to lose ? Trying thinking positive for a change. You might actually enjoy yourself more
There are all sorts of shrimpers and we all fit into one of the following categories;

'My glass is half full'

'My glass is half empty'

and the very rare 'My glass is half empty and what's in it is poisonous'
