I see the farmers have a really good pre-season sorted. They have Wet spam watford and charlton all at layer road. What have we got ? A load of sh1te so far!! Come on Ron/ steve get a big team down. Chelsea/arsenal would be nice.

You obviously haven't a Scooby. Do you realise how many big teams get invites from lower League teams?

Oh and the big clubs charge half the ticket revenue for the priviledge. So we could end up out of pocket in any case

ps the pre-season friendlies are to get the team fit, not for spotty oiks who want to watch some Prem rejects earning their £5,000 a week running round Roots Hall.

Why? Big teams only send down reserve/youth sides, I'd much rather get teams like Orient/Daggers that are going to give us a game, as well as the usual local sides.....

If we're going for a bigger team then go for a division one team that are likely to test us but still put out a decent side (not kids).

Someone like Millwall, perhaps?

Who took the jam out of your dognuts?

All i was saying that it is nice for the fans/players to take on higher league opposition. And so what if they get half the gate receipts. Get chelsea and you get a full house at £15 a ticket. your looking at atleast 70K. Hardly going to put us out of pocket is it!! I would rather watch us play premier than orient thats for sure.

what's a dognut anyway?

I have never seen us sell out in a pre-season friendly....and £15 a ticket for a pre-season is way too much to charge. So, 70k is out to start. Ok, now factor in staff costs, catering costs, promotion costs, policing costs, (and if they're expecting a big crowd, we will get charged), printing costs, plus wages, and you're looking at losing a hefty sum of any money we make. So why do it? To make a few kids happy?

I don;t care who we play at all, to be honest. It's not about having big games, it's about us gelling and getting fit. End of.

Indeed... although for Dennis Bergkamp's Arsenal debut (which came at Roots Hall, for all you pub quiz buffs out there), there were nigh on 10,000 in the ground...

P.S. Dognut - another word for "the dog's bollock's" (in deference to PoD)...

with most clubs, catering and printing would be a profit not a cost !!

Yep... it's why I've always had a somewhat rose-tinted view of the talents of The Lion from Lagos...

Oh yeah sorry i am totally out of order to be hoping to get a big team and a nice crowd at the hall. I would much rather we play burham ramblers infront of 100 people than play chelsea and get 10,000+ . And im sure the players a would prefer that aswell. Here's to a great league season culminating in a cup final against kingfisher athletic! that should cheer you all up

Funny, I thought that pre-season friendlies were about getting the team together, and preparing for the coming season.

If it means are team are better prepared, I'd rather they played against small local teams.

Besides, if we played the gooners, they'd either field a side that nobody's heard of, or thrash us, and leave us demoralised.

Good preparation?

Doesn't "going mad" imply sanity to start with?

What and you think that grays and thurrock are not going to treat us the same as we would treat a premiership team (ie a higher league). Im not saying i want every friendly to be a prem side i was just saying that i think its good for the fans and good for the players. And it could have a great affect on moral if you beat a decent team same as losing to billericay town could have a negative effect . Im not a premiership watching glory boy and il be at most of the pre-season games. Just think it would be nice to test the boys against some class, instead of thrashing amatuers and getting beat when the league starts . The whole argument works both ways.
