Not quite sure what you mean there, we'd treat a prem team by putting out our strongest line up, which is what we want from lower teams.

Personally, I'd like Southend to play a few games against such teams as Barry Town, but then that's the only way I'd get to see them

Im not saying i want every friendly to be a prem side i was just saying that i think its good for the fans and good for the players. And it could have a great affect on moral if you beat a decent team same as losing to billericay town could have a negative effect . Im not a premiership watching glory boy and il be at most of the pre-season games. Just think it would be nice to test the boys against some class, instead of thrashing amatuers and getting beat when the league starts . The whole argument works both ways.

Yeah, OK, good point. But there's no need to be so unsubtle about it to start the thread off!

1. But these are no pressure games where we can work on fitness, and try out new tactics and new players etc without having to worry about the scorelines.

2. But they won't be beating a 'decent team' they'll be beating a load of kids/reserves in Arsenal/Chelsea shirts.

3. If you're using the argument that its better preparation for the league then surely we need to be playing teams of about the standard that we will be playing? Why do we need to test our players against premiership opposition when we will only be playing Premiership opposition for real if we get a good cup draw.

Very unlikely we'd get a 10,000 crowd, even if it is Chelsea. Firstly most people would be on their holibobs and secondly it's a pre-season game that would no doubt see the West London side send down their third reserve team, whilst the first-team is playing in some lucrative competition in the Far East.

Losing 4-1 at home to Spurs X1 two year ago did nothing to build the squads confernce (wrong spelling - I know).

Playing agasint the like of East Thurrock, Billericay and Dag & Red will help the team to gel quicker (also help our new signing ease in better) & a test agasint a full Millwall side will help as well to see how good we are.

Tom,

If I find that photo of you in a Chelsea shirt then you'd better start eating your hat!
