Visited Ieper to see/learn the madness of WW1,The last post played at 8pm every night was a truly moving experience,The 56000 soldiers missing in action is a very sobering thought.The battle of Passchendale must rank as the worse act of madness from crazed generals of all time,Allowing troops to go into open muddied fields whilst at the top of the hill lay 4 German concrete bunkers containing dealy machine gun nests,The result being on the very 1st day of battle 50,000 men were massacred or maimed by the German defences.
The cemetry containing around 12000 soldiers many unnamed and graves filled with different parts from different bodies was mindblowing and extremely sad..The upper classes were indeed idiots as portrayed in the Blackadder serious ie General Melchiot.
