Breaking News The Nov/Dec Embargo thread

When do you think the embargo will be cleared?

To be fair, I think Stan has known all that for years. His love of SUFC has driven him to intervene anyway and thank god he did. We now have a club which has the people and structures to succeed. We just need to bin off the bellend at the top.
Yes and like everyone on here we take it on the chin because the one thing we all have in common is our fanatical support for Southend United.

The Shrimpers Trust was disappointed to learn last night, via the report in the Southend Echo, that Southend United FC have been placed under an embargo by the National League.

We are actively seeking clarification from the club concerning this matter and will be looking to bring all supporters groups together in the coming days to discuss the latest developments.

We will issue a full statement in due course.

I appreciate the post and realise this group is in the dark as much as any supporter or other group, finding out from a public release by a journalist. My questions to you are:

1. Who are you officially liaising with at the club? Stan, Tom, Ron, other..

2. What is the Shrimpers Trust’s stance on protesting? Next game, next home game, still not prepared to support one

3. When will the Shrimpers Trust next be meeting face to face with representatives from the club? Again I’m thinking an extraordinary meeting needs to be called with Ron Martin, CFO, CEO, Stan, Manager etc to discuss a plan to overcome this dire, repetitive situation

4. What do you need from us, the wider fan group at this time?

Thanks

The embargo is not expected to prevent signings of new players when they are identified and terms agreed ??!!??!??!??

That makes zero sense. What's the point of an embargo that doesn't prevent signings? I suspect that what is actually meant is that the embargo will be lifted when the payment plan is in place, and given they expect that to be agreed soon signings can be made.

Also, yesterday after the match KM said targets had been identified.

It does seem that the pandemic has been a bit of a saviour here in that HMRC have been more reasonable even with us. I suppose that, if the statement is correct, and this is an historic debt and we've kept up with recent liabilities then maybe we've proved to them that we can meet current liabilities, which may have swayed their decision to agree a payment plan.

As usual it is a cash flow problem, Ron never has ready monies available. He usually manages to somehow find some cash but this takes time, in the meantime it's an embargo. Most clubs run at a loss but the owner(s) put money in as and when it is needed. Ron never seems to have the finance available on the day that it is needed. A small time operator who has gambled on one big payday (FFarm). In the meantime the ones to suffer are SUFC and its loyal fans.
That we have a cash flow problem would seem to be a logical assumption. Why now? Is it what has now become the normal cash shortage at this time of year where RM eventually somewhere finds the necessary readies to keep HMG at bay?
Or is this cash flow problem a result of RM's recent other problems. If it is the latter I would suggest things might unravel very quickly and unpleasantly.
Those asking for transparency are wasting their time. If you have a lot of creditors it is not usually a good idea to publicly admit you are skint!

I’m sure Stan didn’t join us blindly, Stan has operated with the best of intentions.
Ron is like a ? for courses. I’m sure he will come up with a deal to sort the Umbargo. He has on too many past occasions.
I like many of us are peeded off , but we must try to believe that we can get through the darkness.

He has according to himself brought the players to the attention of the club etc. How do any of us know what players they are. He has brought them forward to the point of signing off.. What more can he do?
According to the club statement, the embrgo shouldn't effect signings...... God knows what that means.

“Unlike many other clubs, we did not borrow money from the Premier League and do not have any bank borrowings. Southend has been supported by Ron and Group Companies through the pandemic.”

Supported! I love that use of the word. Rather, we have borrowed even more money from Ron and he will ensure we pay back every penny of it.
That is bollocks as well. He just raises funds against the future of RH and FF then saddles the club with the debt.

It sounds like a convenient excuse to me. That being said, we'll never know either way.
No Matty, it actually sounds perfectly logical, but your dislike of SC blinds you to that logic.

SC said he would deliver a basket of player names through his contacts, for the management team to pore over.

It makes perfect sense, knowing what we know now, that what SC and John Still have brought to the table has not been and cannot be acted upon. Clearly, that is not the fault of anyone bar Ron Martin. I think it's pretty simple really.

Yep I must admit, it did cross my mind that they may have meant terms being agreed with HMRC. Imagine us fans wanting them to make things a bit clearer!!

Such bullsh*t, EVERY other clubs existing in the same Covid situation, yet NO OTHER clubs are under an embargo to the best of my knowledge.

Treating us all like mugs again, because I guess mugs we are for still hoping for a better future.

One good thing is that Ron's continued contempt for the HMRC will no doubt be being eagerly recorded by the Prosecution for his upcoming trial
In fairness that might be because they took out loans that we didn't.

Last paragraph is a disgrace. It has definitely cost us signings already.

In fact the whole statement is propaganda, spin and semantics that Glavlit would've been proud of. Drives me mad. Embargo may not prevent signings, but it certainly prevents new signings being registered to ****ing play! "Yeah, here's your contract to sign buddy, but **** knows when you'll be able to actually play for us". I'd be off to sign for another interested club, as I'm sure would almost anybody else!!!

I wish I shared your optimism. Most business people that fly so close to the wind on too many occassions usually get caught out in the end, and with his own personal tax affairs to sort out asell, this could be the nail in the coffin. Personally, i've had enough. I had enough years ago, when it was all about his shiny new stadium. I love the club, the history, the players and the supporters who have become great friends, but enough is enough. He must now agree to sell the club WITH the assets he has bought on the cheap immediately, or the protests should return.
