So the viking is back!

I am really intrigued to see how our midfield cope with him or how he copes with ours. Our midfielders obviously know him will and I wonder how they perceive him. Will they respect him, be scared of him or walk all over him?

One things for sure they would of seen the rough side to his game. My colleague at work, who also does some physio work during training sessions at Southend, gave me in insight into Mad Max's broken foot. The aforementioned Deegan was the perpetrator in training. Additionally, Mr Brown was also very unimpressed when Clifford backed out of a challenge by Deegan during training, we didn't see much of Clifford after that!

The team have seen firsthand what old Deegs can do, how will it affect them, what will Phil's plan be?

Deegan isn't good enough to lace Wordy's boots....but could easily crock him.

I would say they have very little to worry about with Deegan and will have played against far better midfielders this season. I do not know Shrewsbury's team but I would be very surprised if he is their main midfield threat; or at least if he is that may explain why they are bottom of the division.

Deegan was a useful squad member but nothing more and with Wordsworth back I doubt he would be in our starting eleven.

He will no doubt be up for the game and expect a few heavy challenges from him but not really a player to dictate a game or make special plans for.

A good chance he will be booked and was sent off last season against his former team.

He didn't start the last game at home to Northampton, but came on after 33 minutes.

He shaved the beard but on the football league show the other week, it looked as though it was back and the shorts were up again!

I guess that's the biggest worry, him going in big on someone. It would just be our luck, that Woody is back to his best for the first time and old 300 knocks him straight back into the medical room!

I'm sure Lenny will have him in his pocket all game.

My main concern too that he does Woody, hope the ref gives him yellow early doors,Deeg will no doubt deserve it.

Tough tackling and getting stuck in are parts of the game. No problem there.

Putting someone's career at risk is not big and not clever.

I just hope that Deegs stays with the former and not the latter - sadly, there is more of a risk of "going too far" when you are playing in a team that is desperate for points.

I certainly don't want to see Deegs sent off - if only because playing against 10 men can be harder to break down.

He also wants to prove Brown wrong. Don't forget he left because he wanted to start more, Brown understandably couldn't guarantee that. Let's hope Deegan's will to prove Brown wrong doesn't result in the red mist.

Jumping to a lot of conclusions here! They have just appointed a new manager who is to say that Paul Hurst will even want to play Deegan?

In fairness to Deean, we only ahve to go back a few weeks and many on here (myself included) felt that we could have done with him as teams cut through us at will. I understand why he went , and I understand some of the comments above, but to me we need a squad with players with different talents to do different roles. There have been, and there will be games where we will wish that we had an enforcer in our squad- not necessariy Deegan but someone that can do that role

I think letting Deegan go was the right decision. He did a decent enough job as a squad player but he is a very limited player. We have a better option for an enforcer/somebody to break up play in Timlin, plus Timlin has more to his game. The problem we have had IMO is that we havegiven our CM’s multiple tasks. It has been the case when Woody, Tims and Lennyhave played together in any combination that both players have played both thedefensive and attacking roles. Because Deegan sat and broke up play pretty muchexclusively we looked a good side with him in it. Going on match reports fromSaturday it seems like Lenny sat in most of the time and let Woody be ourattacking threat in the centre which worked to great effect. It seems a wastefor Lenny to do this job as he has so much more to his game but it is betterfor the team. The same when Timlin does that job. When Deegan does it he seemsperfect because he’s a limited player and you don’t feel he could becontributing anywhere else. I’d argue that given a clear remit to sit/hold andbreak up play that Timlin is a better option than Deegan and Lenny could wellbe too, let’s not forget that after the ball is won you have to do something withit.

I can see Deegan being motivated and having a goodgame against us, he had the odd game for us where he shone, but I don’t thinkhe’s any loss and it’s no coincidence that a team he has played in regularly isbottom of the league.

Must admit, that's a concern for me, but to be fair to Deegan, he never injured any oppo players when flying around for us.

I wasn't particularly a Deegan fan, but he was something of a fan favourite.

I'm trying to think of a current player who inspires such passions amongst at least a section of the fanbase (other than Barrett who's the latest to be banished to Siberia). We seem to be missing a cult player.

Timlin. Ranger has the potential.
