I remember seeing this upstairs in WH Smiths (in Southend) a few weeks back. Has anyone had the chance to get a copy? Is it any good?

The Southend United Chronicles 1906-2006: A Century of Local Press Reports (Desert Island Football Histories) (Hardcover)
by Keith Roe (Editor)

my brother bought it for me for christmas. have got to about 1911 so far and its a very interesting read so far

Just started reading it. Quite enjoyable so far. Interesting that we had two ex Gray's players in our first ever team !

I got it for Christmas but haven't got round to reading it yet though.

very good book.. the authors did a good job.

I got a vopy for Christmas too, its a nice 'toilet read' and mines autographed, but i dont know who by :(

I know Ronnie Poutney (those older ones amoungst us would remember!) did a book signing day prior to christmas, so it could well be him, as he signed my copy.

Excellent, if you like SUFC history, no where else have I seen such detail about the 1906-1920 period.

Also read about the Chesterfield cup tie in 1939, where free transport was arranged for the unemployed ( and even free admission to the ground). So thats where Uncle Ron got the idea from.
