After 121 minutes of the match yesterday, I and many others thought that here we are again and have failed to score at Wembley.

We also didn't score at the Milstad in either LDV finals and the play off game v Lincoln we had to wait until extra time before sealing that one... and our smallest following to the Milstad witnessed it (only around 7000 if I recall).

So when Pigott fired home the equaliser with 12 seconds left or whatever it was - and incidentally I was cheering before the ball crossed the line - the volume of our crowd was absolutely phenomenal and I have never heard it like that. I thought the Wycombe cheer for their goal was loud so God knows what they thought of ours.

And that got me to thinking...

Is that the biggest contingent of Southend fans that have witnessed us score?

Our biggest ever home crowd of 31,000-odd v Liverpool saw a 0-0 draw. I remeber a game v Chelsea in the early 70's that had a crowd of 24,000-odd that we lost 1-0... I think there was a big crowd v Man City in the 50's and we lost 1-0... more went to Wembley last time and we lost 2-0 to Crewe and I think more went to the Milstad for the Wrexham LDV final and we lost 2-0.

Can anyone think of a game where there were more Southend fans in attendance and we scored?

Must be Cambridge 72 , over 17,000 I know we lost 2-1 , but we did score .

Our goal from their end, so enjoyable to watch! Go to about 01:08 for the goal

I was just thinking the very same. The celebration for Piggott's goal must have been the loudest roar ever in the history of Southend United Football Club. What an outpouring of emotion. My God it was amazing to be in the thick of it, I wonder what it felt like to the players on the pitch? Must have been a pure wall of sound. One for the ages, that will live with me for a very long time!

My son and I went totally mental, I've never celebrated a goal so much in my life and to be honest, it's the most unexpected goal i've ever seen. Oh the joy

Oh my god yes!

Great footage, fair play to the Wycombe fan for sticking it up on YouTube, that must have been painful. Gives me goose bumps watching it back!

That is very special indeed, much like David Worrall's goal at Bury which is the most mental celebration that I've ever had at a football match. Sadly I wasn't able to make it yesterday as I was attending a wedding but this footage is giving me goosebumps. I can only imagine what it must have been like to be in the middle of that wall of 20,000 jubilant Shrimpers. :Worthy:

That is amazing and sounds great. What struck me as being absolutely fab was the Phil Brown reaction to the Wycombe fans, giving Ainsworth a bit back!!

No probably not. We have had a couple of league and cup home games where the crowd has been 20,000+ and we have scored, but there would have been quite a few away fans at all those games and I doubt people would have gone as mad as yesterdays goal.

Also I think that's the highest ever crowd we have won in front of. Need to check the records to be sure.

great video!

And yes I wasn't at the other playoff final and hadn't seen any goals at the other three so I am relieved to finally see one!

Yesterdays 38,252 was the 5th highest ever crowd we have played in front of and easily the highest we have ever won in front of.

Any way of copying that clip from you tube, just in case it gets taken down? Needs to be preserved in history!
