Someone on the old SUFC e-mail list has just said that Tilly is to be the new manager at Canvey.

Anyone else heard anything? Can't see anything on their OS or Twitter.

I cant see why Canvey would want to get rid of Glen Alzapiedi when he doing a fine job there since taking over from John Batch, possible play off place and Essex senior cup winners

I heard the guy in charge at the moment is only doing it till the seasons end as he has other commitments

This rumour has been flying around for about 3 weeks.
I also heard that Tilly was over there the other week with King as well

That would be some step down, he deserves better when you look at some of the tosh managers who are around in the FL. I think chairmen are too judgemental, Tilson's not a 'big name' and they see 3 relegations on his CV, not appreciating that one of them was inevitable (us from the Championship) and two were helped by financial problems. As someone said on another thread, I think it'd do Tilly well to be an assistant at a Championship/League One club.

Trouble is Tilly's reputation needs some major rebuilding if he's ever going to get a decent managers job again. People will only look at his last couple of years with us and his disasterous time at Lincoln, fairly or unfairly, and it don't look pretty. If he did go somewhere like Canvey & got them up into the BS South it could be a stepping stone back to better things. To be honest he's unlikely to get a job at a higher level at the moment.

If that's the case why do people like Martin Allen keep getting jobs, and Allen in his illustrious managerial career has won the square root of bugger all.. Tilly may have relegations on his CV but he also has Cup Finals, a Play Off win a League 1 Championship and a win against Manchester United. Lincoln were down and out when he went there I doubt if industrial strength Viagra would have kept them up.

They started pretty well after he took over and then (ironically) after beating us, they were utter toilet for the rest of the season.

If he were to go to Canvey, I'd wish him and the club all success....Could be a reasonable move, and I fail to understand why some Zoners disslike CIFC anyway?...a senior non league club which has had success way above many others, so good luck to them!

Good luck tilly i do believe he could still manage in the footy league but canvey is on his doorstep so why not!!! If Jeff King is back and prepared to back him then im sure theyll be playing in the conference again before long.

Good Luck Tilly and I hope we see u back some day

How could anybody hate Canvey Island Football Club?

I feel bad enough about hating Colchester it's like bullying an insignificant 4 year old girl.

Yes I agree. I can't see how you can hate Canvey. Its almost part of Southend its so close. Also I think it would be a good move for Tilly if nothing else is on offer. The man has to work one way or the other to keep in the football circle.

Agree with you I used to watch a few Canvey games when Southend wernt playing and really enjoyed the football they played especially when Tilly was playing for them.
Might be a good fit for Tilson. Jeff King is going to pump a bit of money into the club though not like the crazy money he used to pump into the club so a good chance for Tilly to rebuild his reputation and prepare him fo the day when Martin has left Southend and he can comeback as manager of Southend.

At a time when Canvey were spending King's mega bucks and some of their followers - whom I sense you wouldn't see at Park Lane these days - saw themselves as a rival for SUFC, I can understand why some Blues fans didn't take too kindly to them.

Since the King departure, the way the fans and club pulled together has been truly remarkable and some of the people involved at CIFC are a cracking bunch. They also have a superb ground for the Ryman Premier.

King cut his ties at Chelmsford about two years ago. It seems he will be putting some money into CIFC again, but certainly not to the extent as before. I hope not, as they've shown they can stand on their own two feet.

Tilly undoubtedly has a lot of sentiment for CIFC, so can't see why he wouldn't go there.

As it happens, I've twice in the last three weeks bumped into Tilly in a Tea Bar queue at a random non-league game! He promised he was watching his weight!
