Transfer Embargo, Winding Up Petition & Staff Salary Issues

Is it professional to need the owner to dip into his own pockets at all? I would argue it isn't, and in that respect other clubs are no different. The fact that other club owners are able to actually dip into their own pockets rather than (as Ron seems to have to) other people's pockets is where the difference lies and is even less professional.
Is it professional to pay your staff late and treat them with utter contempt?

Yes its football wide, completely unsustainable. Reliant on being a rich mans toy.

Rons hideously out of his depth and hideously stubborn.

Just before the first credit crunch things were rosy, going up the leagues, new stadium on the horizon, championship, having a laugh etc.

He was after a quick build n flip and leave a multi millionaire and local hero.

Its his pigheaded bloody mindedness that has lead to all these problems. He could and should have flipped the club and its assets to someone with deeper pockets many years ago. He would have still made a very good chunk of change but hes too greedy.

But what can you do... he ****ing loves the club you idiots....

As much as I agree with you, I don't see the need for the insult.

I don't know why people keep refering to other clubs. I don't care about other clubs (just our beloved SUFC) and the fact they are run poorly aswell doesn't make the situation any better at all.

The so called supporting group companies seem to be living precariously. Most of them have a string of legal charges against them. Its a constant tale of taking out loans against assets. While the land Ron owns keeps increasing in value RM can just about survive. If it decreases which is possible in this climate he could be in trouble. The whole FF and RH housing project could now suffer with the imminent falling of property prices.
At present the propety prices are going through the roof .That why people cant get on the property ladder.

We all care about southend united .But it is a fact of football that there are other clubs in the HMRC mire .

The latest index from Halifax shows house prices fell 0.4% in October 2022, up on a fall of 0.1% the month before. It's the third fall in four months and the steepest drop in value since February 2021. Demand for homes has also dramatically dropped by a third.

Rates should have been increasing pprior to now, and house prices should have dropped to a sustainable level. But, part of that is due to the banks lending more than people can afford

As Boy wonder has said we do have ready made replacements in Lomas and Ralph and i do trust what he says in having a list of potential targets. As for letting players go for paltry sums i like to think Kev and co and TL are not that silly ,they will have put values on these players that are being watched by other clubs and im sure when the time comes will also ask said players how they feel about moving up the chain. Got to say Southend got more from the DALBY transfer than i ever thought they would .
What did they get ?

Now you're straying into a whole different area and are effectively saying, "Why isn't lower level football sustainable as a business model?"

And when I say lower level, I mean Championship down.

In my opinion, there is plenty of money in the game and so much of it goes on players wages at the top level and agents.

If the Premier League wanted to, then they could ensure that sufficient funds were fed down the leagues so all the clubs were kept afloat at all levels. After all, they are only at the top of the pyramid because there is a pyramid!

But as i say, that's another issue.

Good piece from CP here

SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher is keeping his focus on the pitch but cannot ignore what is happening off it.

The Shrimpers saw a winding up petition issued by HMRC adjourned on Wednesday meaning the club remain in a transfer embargo.

Members of staff are also still waiting to be paid for October and Maher admitted it was impossible to block out.

“You can’t ignore it because it’s there,” said Maher.

“It’s difficult and it’s difficult in terms of the staff who are brilliant around the club."

“They’re incredible right throughout the departments."

“There’s stuff we have to deal with that’s part and parcel of Southend."

“The work the staff do is second to none."

“When we go out onto the pitch we’re playing for them and there’s togetherness around the club which helps."

“There’s stuff we can’t control and that I can’t control but what we can try and control is what happens on the pitch."

“All credit to the players and staff because that’s been going ever so well.”

Blues sit sixth in the National League standings after going 10 games without defeat despite the ongoing issues.

Echosport understands the financial problems have also seen the squad not being able to use the GPS system which tracks the distances the Shrimpers squad travel during training and in matches.

Wages are being paid, albeit some, not all are late and some people have agreed to defer wages.

I suspect all monies coming in is going out on the general running of the club, it's just that income isn't enough - like it hasn't been for decades and like it isn't for the vast majority of clubs
I would of thought deferring wages would be a mutual agreement, not just not pay wages and say it's deferred.
