Transfer News, Gossip & Speculation Transfer Thread - Summer 2025 Edition.

Transfer news
I see ex Shrimper Matt Rush wasn't too shabby last year in NLS. More than Spasov? https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nat...schuetzenliste/wettbewerb/NLS6/saison_id/2024
I saw this too, he’s done well - and still only 24. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t he leave during the time we could only register X amount of players? I always got the impression we would’ve kept the likes of Clifford, Gard, Benton and Rush a bit longer if we had the luxury of squad places.

Are the traffic lights stuck on red?
We are in talks with players. They are playing much closer to their chests nowadays. Not to alert other clubs, etc. I used to get names from my HP, some he would let me mention on here, some not. Now I can't get any names until much later on in negotiations. as it's been tightened up so much. Can you imagine the meltdown on here if some fans knew the real numbers of good players we have missed out on? The good news is the club are going after some very decent players, according to my source. So they are trying. Like I said before, keep throwing darts at the dartboard, and some will eventually stick.

I have no idea. I was commenting on Crawley's unsustainable financial decisions. We lost Cashman (still funny) to a club that doesn't know what it's doing.
According to that graphic seems like there a lot of clubs where the owner is funding the club. Whilst unsustainable there are a lot more clubs than Crawley with bigger debts. Colchester in debt by £36.77m

A lot of people are on about Bonne, Walker and Kendall, add Hopper to that, and their poor goal return but, I firmly believe each of them, except Hopper, would have scored more with a genuine targetman alongside them. For me, a big, aerially strong TM is a priority up front and will bring the best out of the players we have. Hopper does not have the pace to be back and then forward up with play, or the speed for a one-on-one foot race.
We were outdone by height, pace and raw power on numerous occasions but do not possess it to retaliate. They don't have to be technically the best but know how to use their physical advantages and have a knowledge of sh#thousery.

We were also a lot more effective from set pieces helped by Golding and then Goodliffe from the back. If neither sign then need to find another centre back who is good at attacking set pieces. Oh to have another Ryan Hall to deliver corners and free kicks.
No word on Goodliffe here at present, of course he is still under contract at Colchester for next season. Danny Cowley said he would sit down with him over the summer to discuss his situation, with Kelleher moving on and Flanagan still to sign his new contract I wouldn’t be surprised to see him stay with us.

Hmm I'm starting to think we might be alright up top you know, with the options we have (though of course .. I wouldn't say no to a signing!).

We improved generally, as has been said, with the forward momentum 2nd half of the season and that's because we had a man in Hopper who could act as that target and keep defenders occupied .. freeing up space for players like Leon and KAF to exploit. Those two, plus Kendall, should be starting the season with a flyer. Walker I'd expect to be raring to go also with a full pre-season. Plus we have the new bloke in the mix and that's without mentioning Macauley. I'm starting to feel a couple of solid CB's who are useful at set pieces plus a more creative option in MF would be a better use of COSU's cash. Aside from lack of goals .. at points last season it was set piece delivery and % of successful crosses plus lapses in concentration/defensive cockups that lost us vital points.

I guess a lot will depend on whether MB accepts reduced terms and Kev & co's views on the others.

Yes all owed to Robbie Cowling he uses the club to offset tax liabilities in his other companies, when/if the takeover happens that debt will go too apparently!
