Transfer News, Gossip & Speculation Transfer Thread - Summer 2025 Edition.

Transfer news
We all need check our expectations to be honest

We don't have a massive budget, so signings need to be smart and well thought out. This is how our transfer committee works.

The reality is, we will miss out on signings ... But the ones we do get will fit the mould and improve the team.

Just need to be patient
Clubs don't like leaks. Apart from anything, they don't want players to think they were 2nd or even 3rd choice. But also they don't want fans getting frustrated. All clubs miss out on targets, with the possible exception of teams at the top of the PL.

We fail to get Cashman whilst the club is in a far stronger position than last summer, but we are still meant to believe we would have got Pearce in May 2024 if it wasn't for the embargo.

This Cashman situation should finally put the Pearce tale to bed.

Nonsense.

Pearce had agreed terms with us last summer. As I’ve said before, I was told that from Pearce’s team themselves before my usual people.

Cashman hasn’t signed for the League Two club yet, but I’d expect him too.

Pearce didn’t have any options in the EFL, whereas Cashman now does, probably because of the success of Pearce.

Ask Justin Rees that, he want to give it a right go and go one step better.

Agreed terms means very little other than we had a good chance. Players agree terms and don't sign all of the time. Was Mussa not one? Maybe now Cashman.

Absolutely spot on. Although I think your figures aren't quite right..

The failure of this deal is on the board who dithered wanting their data. Good people but lacking experience at running a club at this level. Let's hope they learn and of course there are plenty of fish in the sea...
So many of us could see this was going to hinder us in the transfer market and lo and behold the first one and probably our key target is lost because of this very thing. It’s so frustrating.

They all play the field, Pearce would've been exactly the same.

York weren't EFL but could offer him more money and he could go back to Hinshlewood who would've fought tooth and nail to get him.

One of the players told me they thought Pearce was a done deal and he was a Southend player , so yes he didn’t become a shrimper because of the Embargo ☹️

It`s all about the money these day`s, and if these players are chasing higher wages then they probably don`t want to sign for a particular club. That`s their choice, we will be picking up players once most clubs have got their targets. We have survived in the first year, and a massive thanks to the consortium and Justin. Second year will be a consolidation year, maybe adding a few players to what we have. Third and fourth years will probably be more of a push and top 3. Expectations need to be met with reality, and we are where we are. We only want players that are fully committed to coming here, players agents know that we are in a better position now, but we won`t be breaking the bank and bowing to their demands of higher wages. Let`s see who we get and back the process.

In this particular case none of that is true. Cashman wanted us all summer but we didn't get it done. This one is totally on us. The margins in this division are so small that you have to go out and deliver your key targets and learn from your mistakes.
Look at the goals/assists a player of that calibre can provide. Huge blunder and one that could cost us come May next year...

Its the rule of the jungle really, we gazumped Boring Wood and we were all smug about it. Now someone further up the food chain has done it to us, that is football. I bet we disappointed a few teams when we signed Keenan and Leon.
