TRANSPORT ON SUNDAY

Anyone going via c2c should consider buying their return ticket 3+ days in advance to get a 40% saving.

Done. A good little saving that. The missus also happy as she has to travel to Westminster for work twice a week, so saving her a lot of money annually! Thanks for that. 👍

The discount applies off peak only, so outside of what would generally be considered as rush hour.

After the game at Wembley Central & once down on the platforms, does anyone know if you have the choice of Bakerloo & Overground, ie first train in or is separate platforms & take pot luck

No worries.

Other thing to mention is most Londoners use Citymapper for working out the quickest route. It’ll calculate in real time your journey time depending on traffic, when your bus will arrive, how much it’ll be etc.

It’s free to download and use (just ignore the premium bits).
Bloody marvellous 🤩

Just had a look at Citymapper. Curious to know they only use Stansted Express and make no mention of National Express (Baker Street Station). OK, it's a bit slower but it is Sunday? Do they proide more alternatives if you download the ap?

So purchase off peak day return to fenchurch street from Stanford-le-Hope (£9.80). Then do tappy tappy with my credit card to get to Wembley via some pubs and various tubes etc??

Would that be the cheapest?
An all zones travel card might be cheaper, but that will mean putting it in the gate, and it not working twice with 300 people behind you .. mind you if the gates are left open then no tapping at all for you and you can be the angry person in the queue 😉

The C2C is so much cheaper, but for me getting to and from Basildon from wickford doesn't then make any difference, annoys the hell out of me greater Anglia line and there prices but guess will have to pay it

Yes, had a look at the app and for Sunday it’s saying the Stansted Express will be much quicker than the National Express but if you scroll down (or just click on the bus only options) it’s showing the A6 as an option.

I’ll most likely do Chalkwell > Stratford on the C2C, Jubilee to Baker St, Marylebone > Wembley Stadium.

I always find at big football games the last thing you want to be doing is tapping in and out with the crowds. At Stratford it's easy to forget to tap in for the Jubilee .. so I'll be getting paper tickets, old school :) - I've got a Network card so a third off.

Network cards are good value and you can cover 4 tickets? If you are travelling together . Get em in advance avoid any queues at chalkwell. Stratford and Stepney East are both easy taps to miss

Just to confirm that no other tube lines are out on Sunday (bar the two crucial ones!).

But anyone considering the Overland from Stratford (which I was at one point) ;

Yeah I'll most likely get a family travelcard which leaves me open to any route there/back. Tapping in and out everywhere is a pain and don't think it works out all that much cheaper.. if at all..

I think you will find that the C2C book early offer is limited to travel on their stations. Shoeburyness to Fenchurch Street etc. If you try to buy a Travel card then the usual price appears. The cheapest way seems to be to buy a ticket to London and get 40% off then use a debit or oyster card on the Underground/Overground.

To Wembley Stadium (2h 9m)

  • Take the c2c at Southend Central or Greater Anglia at Southend Victoria, both towards London Liverpool Street.
  • From London Liverpool Street take the Circle Line or the Hammersmith and City Line to Baker Street Underground Station.
  • Change and take the Bakerloo Line to Marylebone Underground Station or walk to London Marylebone (approximately 10 minutes).
  • From London Marylebone take the Chiltern Railway line to Wembley Stadium.
To Wembley Central (2h 15m)

  • Take the c2c at Southend Central or Greater Anglia at Southend Victoria, both towards London Liverpool Street.
  • From London Liverpool Street take the Circle Line, the Hammersmith and City Line or the Metropolitan Line to Euston Square Underground Station.
  • From Euston Square walk to London Euston (approximately 8 minutes).
  • From London Euston, take the London Overground towards Watford Junction to Wembley Central.

I wanted to ask one or two questions, hoping that people living in the UK may be able to help me with. Then I thought that others may have similar questions, doubts and uncertainties about Sunday, so it may be worth starting a thread. The UK part of my journey starts a 8h55 (PLEASE Ryanair!) at Stansted. I have taken hours looking at the alternatives.......there are many ......Stansted Express, Tottenham Hale, Oxford Circus Wembley Central/Wembley North/Stonebridge Park ( Marylebone, Chiltern Railways to Wembley Park) Tube card 1-3/ 1-4? National Coach, Stansted to Baker Street.......... and I could go on but my head hurts. Then I thought, as there are two of us maybe a taxi would be an idea.......a bit more expensive but a hell of a lot less stress and no complications in changing transport? There is no real concern about the home journey. I'm going back to Leigh-on-Sea for the night, so will probably meander on the tube to Aldgate/Fenchurch Street. The question I have concerns that trip. C2C on Sunday is obviously off-peak, so is there any advantage in pre-booking the tickets or will it be the same fare if I buy them when I turn up?
I've got the reverse issue - getting to Stansted right after the game - flight is at 10pm, which you think would be plenty of time, but it is tight if there's extra time.

There is a queuing system at Wembley Stadium Station (a 5-minute walk away), but none at Wembley Central (a 15-minute walk away). I've got my ticket to Stansted in advance to avoid any delay - the ticket is open, so I can travel at any time and by any route.

Wembley Central overground to London Euston - avoiding any tube issues.

London Euston to Tottenham Hale (Victoria Line).

Tottenham Hale to Stansted Airport (Greater Anglia Stansted Express).
