Wembley Commiserations Thread

I'd like to mention my old mate Colin Rickards who can't be at Wembley for health reasons.

It was a pic of Colin's face that launched the club's TIFO appeal two days ago.

He is a top guy who suffers from Parkinsons and helped to set up a Parkinsons Cafe meeting group which has been very successful. Colin is a long standing East Stand season ticket holder.

Speaking to him yesterday, he says he hopes to cheer us on from home watching on DAZN8b58f930-3bec-11f0-b897-8758584ebf8e.png

I mentioned elsewhere last weekend... I had match tickets available on Sunday. I found an 'affordable' solution for flights, hotel, trains etc. for my trip with my lad from Malta. Just as I was about to book everything, my son asked me to wait a bit.

He rushed off to check something. Cane back a few minutes later and told me that, because his application to join the Royal Marines is now in the security clearance stage, and he's an overseas candidate, he cannot travel to the UK.

Gutted doesn't even begin to explain how we felt. I couldn't leave him behind. I want to watch the game with him. So... missing out.

I'm not going as I have worked 25 years in the transport industry including TfL, Network Rail and a couple of consultants. I've worked at Wembley Park on event days, Twickenham, London marathon, etc. Out on the stations, concourses, inside stadia and control rooms. If it were anywhere other than Wembley or Twickenham I would be going but it just feels like work.

Enjoy the day, I shall be listening from afar.

Awful poor excuse. Disgraceful tbh.

Is your son going to be based in Malta or back in the UK? If the UK will that mean he’ll get to some games?

Royal Marines aren't based in Malta. For training, he'll be in Devon, then after passing out, he could remain based in Devon or Scotland.

Once he has free time, he wants to catch games.
Well yeah that’s what I thought, he’d be back in the UK. Fair play to him, that’s a great experience, must be pretty determined.

blimey - I remember seeing you in Malta and that was 20 years ago now! He was only a baby then!

Colin sits behind me. A really lovely man.

A old poster on SZ who went by the name of CS Cockles unfortunately won't be able to make it.

Due to ill health, he now gets around in a mobility scooter (you will see him in town sometimes with the Southend flag on the back of it) so won't be able to attend the boy.

He was also a bit concerned about his tag as he needs to be indoors by 7pm so all in all he is going to have to watch it from his flat.

Here's to CS Cockles, and a brighter future than he has had thrown at him the past few years.
Looks like he’s telling porkies 👀 he tried telling me he was on holiday.

Not all of us can go to Wembley for various reasons, some might be work related or financial and many other different reasons.

In my case I can’t go as I’m not well enough and it’s one of the most heartbreaking and frustrating experiences in my life, I have or should I say had a match ticket and all that but health has to come first in my case.

So I thought I would start this thread so that other fans who can’t go can share why and maybe make it a little easier that they are not alone in not being there and that it’s not the end of the world.
Mate. Anything we can do to help get you there / make it doable for you? Text me x

I honestly feel sorry for all of you they are not going. Our biggest game in history to date that means more to the club than any other success we had in the past.

All the home and away games added up can’t compare to Sunday. If there’s anyway any of you that can’t go can try by anyway possible to get there do it. You will feel such a sense of regret by not going. You only live once just go. It’s only one day, having said that though
you can all support from the comfort of your home by watching on dazn.

Hope we win and in the future we have another big day like a fa or league cup final or even a championship play off final. That realistically won’t happen in the majority of our life time so I’m pleading with you all to try and make it tomorrow.

You will all regret not going !!! If any of you need any help I can try my best to make it happen.
