.... We paid for your hats!!!

Anybody else think that the game yesterday was like a military operation for the police? All lined down Victoria avenue like world war 3 was about to take place!

I suppose after a few incidents last season at home games they didn't want to take any chances, especially with it be a local rivalry game.

It sounds like the police were misinformed. A few years back there was a tasty looking firm of about 80 Orient hoolies who had clearly come for trouble. I saw the police surround them and escort them back to Prittlewell Station. So they were probably expecting another mob to come down.

Yeah, I thought there were an unusual amount of police about yesterday, but I guess they thought better safe than sorry in the light of some recent incidents. To be honest it doesn't bother me, the last thing we want is for Southend to start getting some sort of reputation as a place where it's easy to come and cause trouble.

However, I was disappointed they failed to protect me on the train home when a 12 year old Orient fan sang an Orient song at me whilst walking past - where were you then plod?!?! Where were you then....???? *sob*

Yesterday probably cost the club more in policing than what they made on the gates.

Unless we get them in the cup, at least we won't have to play that scum again for a good few years as they flirt with relegation out of the football league.

Surely we only pay for policing inside the ground and in streets immediately surrounding the ground. Outside that, especially on Victoria Avenue, is someone else's problem? Happy to be told I'm wrong.

Yes, society in general! So we all pay for it ...... and have done for the last 30 years. Before that you could go to a game and just enjoy the match. Trouble is some people have been brought up with this stupidity, are easily led and don't have the intelligence or the courage to turn their back on it.

This has nothing to do with football.

The club only pay for policing/security inside the stadium.

I agree with all you say Rattus. My post was in response to Bkdside.

So perhaps the Orient friendly was requested not by SUFC but the local plod, so they could get ready for the visits of Col Ewe and Millwall?

Policing outside the footprint of the club is not paid for by SUFC

Good news. Well at least the police had something to do on Sunday rather than catching people dropping a cigarette or claiming false expenses whilst protecting our corrupt government

Shame they didn't take quite the same stand point vs Luton which appeared to have had its policing organised by a small child.

No way. For a pre season game that kicked off at 1pm on a Sunday? Loads of people I know were not going and was hardly a "must see" match for most. I would be staggered if there were as many as that there. :nope:

That was absolutely incredible how they let that nasty little Luton mob go out of the North Bank and up Shakespeare Drive totally unatended, to pick off and punch some Southend fans, mostly young lads on their own to start with, that had no chance. Clueless policing.
