I asked, because you’re the acknowledged expert on all matters fish and because I’m in one of those pedantic moods my wife despises.

A kipper - as you know - is a whole herring split from head to tail in a butterfly fashion. All I’m asking is if you cut the kipper down the middle, losing one of the basic characteristics of a kipper, ie the butterfly shape, does it cease to become a kipper and becomes two halves of a smoked herring.

There’s probably a lot to consider here. Do you think I should start a thread and throw it open to all?

Late afternoon lunch/early dinner at the Peterboat of smoked haddock chowder in a hollowed cob followed by traditional fish and chips then a stroll along the cinder path and a drink at the Mayflower. What a marvellous place Old Leigh is on a warm summers evening.

I didn't this time but would make a mean toasted sandwich or perhaps a toasted sourdough baguette of some kind, maybe I'll do that with the other tin I have.

Todays 2 course lunch is a fresh grilled mackerel, followed by 1/2 pint of coc kles from Leigh Old Town, delicious!.

Back to normal fayre, I had a Builders breakfast in the cafe round the corner to the West stand nice though.

Normal service is resumed, with a fresh, large mackerel from the Old Town, grilled with a couple of slices of bread & butter. Wonderful!.
