Where do we go from here?

Well Coughlan was having problems with Mansfield's defence in his last job so RM would probably resist such an idea.
This. Imagine Ron phoning MM .. “Mark, great job you’re doing but look, I’m bringing in someone who had a 14.81% win percentage managing a team 2 places above us, to sort out our crap defence. Hope that’s ok?”

Mansfield were obviously struggling but they had 3 nil-nils in 11 matches. We've kept no clean sheets in 11 games and only once have we only conceded one in a match.

What's the alternative? Ron ringing up and saying "Mark, you're doing a great job, I'm not going to sack you or change anything just continue as you are"?

Ron doesn't want to (and can't afford to) sack MM but he'll feel the need to make a change for change's sake unless things pick up in the next couple of games. This is a cheaper option than sacking the manager. It can be part-time and time limited and Coughlan has name recognition and league experience for the fans who dismiss the current staff as PE teachers.

Remember that when Ron didn't want to sack Tilly he tried sacking Brush first instead and more recently it was Ron who suggested bringing back McCormack and Hart.

A serious question (for me anyway) do all lg 1 and 2 clubs have to be professional? I'm just thinking ahead with the EFL looking at embargo restrictions and a way forward through this pandemic for clubs to survive.eg.

Don’t know why RM doesn’t have a go at being the manager , he seems to be doing half the job anyway in recruiting the players he wants to (Macca & Hart) & giving them the hair dryer treatment in his press statements as well as being Chairman & CEO.

This obviously allows MM the time to concentrate on his data, be nice to small children, feed kittens & hug old ladies- he’s just SO nice.

At least RM would save himself a salary.

I get that but it would be a hard sell to Molesley and would be seen as undermining him. Surely all MM’s data analysis etc has identified what GC would be able to tell him anyway. Coughlan might shout at them more I guess.

MM is in no position to refuse.

What would your alternative be if we lose the next couple of games?

In reality from the last 2 years most Zoner's could have the same win ratio.

Well if he’s bringing in outside help he may as well sack MM as that’s going to end badly. GC might have something to offer as a defensive coach but the playing style he implemented at Bristol Rovers wasn't pretty and he’s a very outspoken character. Him and Molesley seem like chalk and cheese to me in fact MM seems more like the guy Rovers brought in to replace GC.
I do get the idea behind something like this .. something does need to change and fast. Remember though it’s 5 different managers now and you do wonder if the only solution is replacing certain players. Without naming names I honestly think some are beyond coaching, by anyone.

It's already going badly.

Would any of that be a bad thing in our current situation?

If Molesley is any good as a manager he'll be able to use someone even if they are different personalities.

They need to work on defensive shape, on attacking the ball coming into the area and on closing down. MM can continue to practice his pretty passing patterns once they have the ball but they need that firm base to build from.

Exactly. This is the cheapest option which is why it will appeal to Ron.

Changing the manager and his whole coaching staff is more expensive and changing an entire squad is even more expensive than that.

There's also the issue of how many people would actually want the job when you're stranded at the bottom of the 4th division, in an embargo working for a chairman who would be appointing his 9th(?) manager in under 3 years.

Hugging old ladies (even your nan) is not allowed in the current kerfuffle.

The cleaner however may be allowed if you are wearing a mask.

I'm fairly sure GC is one of the many who would not want the job under any circumstances, let alone the current situation.

I think it could be a credibility issue.

Do the players believe in a management team where some of them have not played at a level equal or higher to them?

Couple this with the fact that they are yet to obtain a win under their guidance / tactics.

I think if were a player at SUFC at the moment I wouldn't believe either.
