Why does the season start so early?

The Premiership starts on the 19th August but the Football League games start two weeks earlier.
Don't know why it has to start so early? I know there are 8 more games to get in but these can easily be made up in midweek.
Going back 20 years the season would start in the last Saturday in August which seemed the right time particularly after a World Cup or European Championship.

Just hope we don't have a heat wave like we had in 2003 in the 1st week in August which saw temperatures reach almost 40 degrees, could cause real problems for the players if its as hot again.

Does seem to be starting very early, we play 6 games in August all during the kids school holidays. It doesn't help as there are quite a few free weekends due to International fixtures to fit in.

Starts normally around this time just Premiership held back by World Cup like someone earlier on said...

I noticed that as well. No game on Monday 28th August ("Late Summer Holiday (UK)").

I wonder why?

There are internationals the following weekend and thus players have to be released so they dont bother.

The season has started at this time of year (beginning of August) for ages now, so it's not really a problem.
