Why Goater must start against Col U

cerbera45

Coach⭐
1. He scored twice against them back in August.
2. He's got a good record in derbies.
3. He's scored 3 goals in his last 5 games.
4. Him and Freddy play well together.
5. He's more effective starting than coming off the bench.

Goater said he want to give everything he got until end of the season before he retire (hopefully on high) so this game will do for starter.

Not for me.  I think in such a ding-dong fast game I'd prefer Freddy & Bradbury to start.

Goater offers an option, but I fear the pace of the match might mean that the game largely bypasses him.

I would start Goater just for his big game experience. Bradbury can come on when Goater tires which will give the defence something else to think about.

I tend to agree with this but hope that Tilson doesn't leave the Goat on for too long once he's knackered.

But he never subs players after 10 mins.

Playing devil's advocate here, please justifify this statement. especially give all the evidence seems to suggest otherwise. (As per the original post.)

Hasn't he justified his selection with his statements?

Not really, he is saying the pace of a Derby game will pass Goater by, but he scored two in the match earlier this season, and (apparently) has a good record in other derby matches he has played in, that will all have been more cut and thrust than your average match.....

Ok,

Well I don't expect the Blues to dominate the game, I think that we could be under a lot of pressure and this generally means that the ball to 'hoofed' up front. The problem with this is Goater isn't the type of player who can successfully chase balls. I don't think that its playing to his strengths, good feet, good passing, involving other players.

In an ideal world Gray would play - able to chase and hurry defenders (I don't think that Goater is great in the air, Gray and Bradbury are better in that department).

Also Goater doesn't offer any counter-attacking options, too slow and an inability fitnesswise to support the counter-attack and help out at the back.

There is no knocking of Goater's goalscoring record, but its generally when he's "feed" - he won't create anything by himself. Freddy does this, with skill/speed/magic, but I think that Bradbury will be more useful as he seems to be able to run for Britian.

I wouldn't be disappointed if Goater started but 45 is all I think he can offer, although Tilson always waits until 70 mins to do any subs.

i have to say it.. goater has made the biggest impression this season more than anyone other than gutteridge.. as said, last 5 games, 3 goals, he is going to go down in Southend United History when he scores saturday.. would love to see him stay at southend for coaching or something the like once he retires from the professional game

I agree with both sides of the arguement here but for me it is too bigger game to try a new partnership of Freddy and Bradbury. It will have to be Goat along side Sir Fred. I personally with Gray was fit enough to start but he isn't so we have to make do with what we ahve. And what we have is good enough to beat Col******r

I too would start with Goat & Fred, Bradbury looks to hold the ball up well tho & can be a provider for Eastwood.

But goals win games, & for me Shaun has the edge in that department. (his goalscoring exploits this year speaks for itself & scoring IS his job). So far Bradbury hasn't come up with the goods in that department..so far!

Whoever Tilly & Brush starts with I am confident we can do a job, COME ON LADS!!!
