Simple etiquette question - what is the least I can get away with spending without looking tight?

I am concerned that if I run a tab people will start taking the p!ss and start ordering expensive drinks with umbrellas and sparklers in.

My current plan is to hold it in a rough pub so those that do turn up don't hang around.

Congrats on the job front then?

First job is to pick a pub which won't serve silly drinks. Then a quiet word with the bar manager to keep it sensible.

I was thinking about Sonny and Terry's at Limehouse.

I'll nip in tonight on my way home and have a word with Sonny or Terry.

Why not buy some cider and a few tins of tennets and stick a pin hole in the side, cheap and quick way to get drunk.

As a valued member of the team, surely they'll be queuing up to buy you drinks?

Surely you buy one drink for everyone and thereafter everyone should be buying you drinks? I thought the whole purpose of a leaving do was to leave an unforgetably drunken impression on everyone as you leave them for a final time.

Er, don't people buy you drinks? I have mine next friday and that's what I'm banking on!

When I moved departments in Customs, I had about 15 pints of guiness and I dont recall paying for any of them!

This is because they are celebrating finally getting rid of you. THey intend to get you completely paninied in the dog and duck, so that you go home early and they continue the celebrations in some swanky middle Enlgland wine bar in the centre of MK.

Sorry to have broken this to you.

Where I work the person leaving buys the drinks.

Very glad this is not the case where I work at a local newspaper. Basically anyone who earns over £20K is looked upon like some kind of oil baron. When you add in the fact that journalists drink like fishes, I would literally have to stop after one round.
